PCSPECIALIST Issues with new Ultranote (Initia ?)

Thanks Style Evo, I did look at the drivers for the chipset and also the wireless card driver which were implicated. The former was "up to date" but digging further it is described as needing further installation, so the finger certainly points at that driver. The wireless network card updated...

PCSPECIALIST New Laptop - First things...

Ha ha, sounds like you're at my level. I was quite sussed with windows 95 and to an extent XP but now it's all a bit of a mystery.

PCSPECIALIST Issues with new Ultranote (Initia ?)

Indeed Ubuysa, you're right about the error logs and the mild paranoia they can induce and I've no intention of going back there any time soon. I only looked at hers after the unexpected reboot then unfortunately the hundreds of errors fuelled my borderline OCD to get rid of them. I did read...

PCSPECIALIST Issues with new Ultranote (Initia ?)

Another update, I have managed to completely remove the WHEA errors by going to the PCI-express power settings and changing them from "maximum saving" to "off". Mr Google did tell me that there was an option for "maximum performance" rather than "off" but i assume they're the same thing or...

PCSPECIALIST Issues with new Ultranote (Initia ?)

Just as an update Malwarebytes is now operating solely as an on demand scanner. The WHEA errors are still numbering at least 50-100 every day but there's been no obvious problems in the operation of the pc. I'm wondering whether I should just leave it be and wait to see if something specific...

PCSPECIALIST Another upgrade disaster and communication problems

Imgburn burns BD-R data discs really well, it's excellent software and is free.

PCSPECIALIST Issues with new Ultranote (Initia ?)

ah thanks ubuysa that's interesting. I'd only installed MWB free version for on demand duties but I seem to remember it installed a trial of the full version without asking. I thought (wrongly) that the Avast install was smart enough to disable the MWB active antivirus as I've had this situation...

PCSPECIALIST Issues with new Ultranote (Initia ?)

I ran this and the only download it offered was for a generic intel graphics driver windows 10 DCH with warnings that it will overwrite any OEM customised drivers installed by the manufacturer. It recommended sticking with the OEM drivers. There was nothing for the AX200 card which was reported...

PCSPECIALIST Issues with new Ultranote (Initia ?)

Hi ubuysa I finally managed to get the minidump file and the sys / apps logs. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/15zdH7qs0m0PwTiz4t4liPrf7ZJQDdgbU?usp=sharing Unfortunately there was no memory.dmp file in C:\ windows or anywhere else I searched despite event viewer saying it had saved...

PCSPECIALIST Issues with new Ultranote (Initia ?)

Thank you very much for that detailed answer ubuysa. I don't think I'll be able to get on the pc for a few days now but in the meantime could you please explain to an IT dinosaur how I get these files to the cloud. I don't use services like onedrive. I have a google account but not sure how to...

PCSPECIALIST Issues with new Ultranote (Initia ?)

Yes hopefully ubuysa will have some thoughts on this but many thanks for your input Martin you've been really helpful. I hadn't considered updates, not sure why as they've caused grief in the past.

PCSPECIALIST Issues with new Ultranote (Initia ?)

Hi all Got the missus a new laptop a few days ago, bought it as an Ultranote but it now seems to be called an Initia. She noticed last night it wouldn't shut down properly as the k/b lights remained illuminated and the drive light was still on. After about 10 minutes it went off. Then today the...

PCSPECIALIST New laptop - Any good?

No problem, you're welcome. FYI I play slightly older games like Doom 2016, nothing really taxing but everything is at ultra setting. My temperatures (GPU) have never gone over 56c. Please let us know how you find it if you do go ahead and buy it.

PCSPECIALIST New laptop - Any good?

Hi I have a very similar build to yours but with 2 x 1TB drives, as Demon28 says go for the 2 x 8 memory option and the upgraded thermal paste. I'd also go for the silver warranty (if you haven't, it's only £5 more). I've found the gaming to be fine (for my fairly modest needs).

PCSPECIALIST Optimus XI button to left of power button

OK thanks Spydertracks, i'm fine with that if that's how it works. It's no big hassle to turn it up when I see the temperatures rise.

PCSPECIALIST Optimus XI button to left of power button

Bump.. Reading this over I realise that the nvidia optimus comment is a bit irrelevant. What I meant to ask was why is there a turbo control (for the fans) when my 6+ year old pc will automatically ramp up the fans when required without user intervention so presumably my latest one will do that...
