Gateway 970 ? You mean Gigabyte I presume. I think the problem is that you haven't connected power to the GPU properly, for the 8 pin slot you need to get an 8 pin connector through all the slots. Can't just connect 6 and leave 2 on the side empty. Don't know why you're referring to an EVGA...
