If Apple TV bypasses the "smart" bits of the television, it could be as simple as;-
Router - Ethernet - Apple TV
Add a NAS if that works and I want photos etc?
Is that possible?
Thanks
OK, so to recap as I have no technical background.
1. I run an ethernet from my router to a pc that sits in a convenient location by the television.
2. I connect the pc to the television with HDMI (yes my television has HDMI)
3. I put Plex software on pc.
4. I connect a NAS drive to the pc.
Is...
Hello and thanks for your replies,
I have a lot of photos which would be good to see on the large screen, otherwise just TV. iPlayer is a must! In fact we use the main UK tv channels 90% of the time.
4k would be great.
I am willing to spend some thousands if it will mean watching will be a...
Hi, I have a mac, a pc and 2 "smart" (read Dumb) TVs. The computers are like sprinters, the dumb tvs are staggering along using a walking frame. Thats simply not good enough.
I want to watch TV, iplayer etc, stream stuff and so on, but I don't know where to start.
Please someone give me some...
Hi,
I have always been into backing up my photos, 1000's of them going back years, plus other bits & pieces.
I have just proved the old saying about "more haste less speed" and fried my USB hub & 2 external HDD's by connecting a 12V external power supply to the hub instead of the practically...
Hi,
I really need help speccing a pc & I am not getting an answer to my question, likely because I did not understand what I needed to ask. Maybe my old thread could be deleted and I can start over here?
I get asked "what is your budget", and my answer is "what do I need to spend"? I don't...
Hello I have a pc & Edimax 802.11n router both bought from pcspecialist.
I have a slightly larger than average bricks & mortar house.
My main pc uses a wired link to the router, my partners laptop is one floor below and directly under the router & gets a pretty good signal (3 bars).
My smart...
Hello,
my PC has 4gb RAM. Its only a few months old and I am now into 3D modeling for which I need a lot of RAM.
When I bought the PC I was told that I could have a max of 16Gb onboard, so now I have asked PC Specialist to supply me with 2x8Gb RAM - below is the reply that I got;
"Dear...
I have designed the pc to be quiet & touchscreen, it is to be used for surfing, a bit of photo editing and playing a few rather old and undemanding games.
I'm trying to keep the costs down.
Currently I have a Logitech wireless keyboard with recharging dock for the mouse - its great but has...
Hello, my PC has taken to hesitating for a second now & then.
This can happen whilst downloading from the net, typing, scrolling, just about anything.
Windows 7 fully updated.
Also the fans run at full speed - I use Speedfan to slow them to around 50% which keeps the temperature ok.
Any help...
This is the spec that I have come up with after taking into account help from people here (thanks).
Two questions;-
1. I am rather short on understanding motherboards, so can anyone here tell me if I would gain anything by upgrading to the Pro version (or other version) of the motherboard...
I have a custom build quote for very similar machines from PCSpecialist & ComputerPlanet, cost within £9. I have purchased from PCSpecialist before and had a pretty good experience, so I am inclined to purchase here again.
I have a couple of questions;-
The 1GB ATI RADEON™ HD5670 - Is it...
Hi, I would like a quiet pc, I do some gaming (Total War, Football Manager - nothing too demanding) and editing of +12mp photos in photoshop.
Don't really care whether Intel or AMD, am open to guidance on all aspects. I like the idea/speed of SSD (because the HDD is always the bottleneck) but...
Hello all,
I have installed Windows 7 and Virtual Machine / XP Mode.
The XP mode is "virtually" useless because;-
a. It can't access the graphics card, so it "sees" only a generic 16bit 2D card - so few/no games!
b. It can't share peripherals such as printers!
c. It does share CPU & RAM...
