So, this is my thoughts for my new machine that I've been wanting to get for a bit
Case
CORSAIR iCUE 4000X RGB Tempered Glass Mid-Tower ATX Case
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™ i7 16-Core Processor i7-13700K (3.4GHz) 36MB Cache
Motherboard
ASUS® ROG STRIX Z690-F GAMING WIFI (LGA1700, USB 3.2, PCIe...
So, I had a plan, an awesome plan!
My next new PC was planned for about late June/July - I had most of it planned in my head and it included either the i5-12600k or the i7-2700k
And then, last week, the AMD stuff was announced --- goddammit, they look nice ...... mutter, mutter, grumble...
This is tale of Rakk bouncing around going 'ooooooo, ooooo, ooooooo, where's the wallet' followed by sheer disappointment I'm afraid
So, I'm wanting to upgrade to a 3070, my poor old 1070 (5 years old now) wants a rest.
Anyways this morning I decided I'd look at the upgrade page, not expecting...
Hi guys,
So I'm looking for a new monitor, things I am looking for in said monitor:
1440p
144Hz
maximum 27" in size (any bigger and well it wont fit on the desk with my other monitor and no I cant get a bigger desk),
decent response time
decent quality
not more than 500 quid, not sure exactly...
So I was looking at getting a new PC in May (see here), however I decided to wait til the release of the AMDs to see what the options would be at that point.
Anyways, I now have a couple of choices.
AMD:
Case
CORSAIR CRYSTAL SERIES 570X RGB GAMING CASE
Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 7 3800X Eight...
So it's about that time where I get myself a present of a new PC - my current machine still works fine, but I want new stuff :)
Anyways, this is the spec I've got so far:
Case
CORSAIR CRYSTAL SERIES 570X RGB GAMING CASE
Overclocked CPU
Overclocked Intel® Core™ i7-9700K Eight Core (3.60GHz @ up...
Apparently I can now see into the future - which is a nice new skill I never knew I had.
I even have proof of it:
See I can see that I'm about to post a reply to a thread :)
Admittedly I can only see a moment or two in the future which make make the skill a little less useful, but you never...
So I'm looking for a new mechanical keyboard - I've had mine for about 4 years and I'm sure it would've lasted longer had it not been for a small 'VR-diet coke' related incident - it's still mostly fine (most of the diet coke missed the keyboard) except that the 4 and 5 keys now double tap some...
So I finally got round to getting myself a new spangly new 1440p monitor (I've been meaning to for the last year ...) and it's lovely, it's a Dell U2518D - yes, myself and my workmate who was leaving on Friday may have spent a good 30-45 minutes discussing monitors on Thursday morning - we were...
Firstly I think this thread should actually be titled 'Why Rakk shouldn't go messing with Windows' :), but anyways.
I decided it was time for a clean Windows install, I've been having some weird issues and throughout various upgrades from bog standard Win 10 to Creators edition to the latest...
So, I think my SSD has died, and just wanted to check that I wasn't missing anything.
So: it can't be seen in either the BIOS or Disk Management.
I unplugged both the power cable and SATA cable from said SSD and replugged them in, the power cable is an extension of the power cable from the...
So, it's time to look for a new phone (for a number of reasons including the fact my current one seems to be struggling, is running out of space and my current contract is due for renewal).
Current phone - Moto G 4G with 8GB Storage
Current uses: I've got a few games on my phone currently...
Hi guys,
So I got my new PC about a month ago, when I got it, on initial boot up, it didn't - I got one long beep folowed by 3 short beeps and not boot - some googling later this series of beeps means it can't find the GPU, so after some fiddling and reseating the GPU it worked fine, so I...
So the time has come - it's time for a new PC, this is my plan so far:

Motherboard
ASUS® Z170 PRO GAMING: ATX, LG1151, USB 3.1, SATA 6GBs

Hi guys :)
So I could do with a small bit of advice.
At the weekend I was busy copying over some movie files onto my Caviar Black drive, and I heard a clicking noise (followed by some face pulling cos clicking from a hard drive is never good and some hasty copying of everything useful onto an...
So recently, my CPU fan seems to keep ramping up in speed - sometimes for a few seconds, other times upto about 30-40 secs, I found out about this cos when it does so it makes a lot of noise, and yes it's definitely the CPU fan.
The PC details:
Case COOLERMASTER CM690 MKII ADVANCED CASE...
So I'm thinking about getting some extra RAM for my machine (I'll explain why further down).
Currently I have 2x4GB of Kingston HyperX Genesis 1600MHz RAM (which claims to be 9-9-9-27, possibly running at 1.65V), so I want to know what other memory will work alongside it.
A lot of 1600MHZ RAM...
Don't suppose anyone knows how to remove the fan from a 'Super Quiet 22dBA Triple Copper Heatpipe Intel CPU Cooler' - without removing the whole cooler from the PC?
I ask cos I'm trying to remove my RAM sticks (for testing purposes and possible replacement), however the cooler fan rather...
Hi guys,
So, after a 30 min conversation with the PCS guys, I think we've come to the reason why I seem to be getting BSOD's (roughly every two weeks currently), the SSD is having issues, so a nice new one will be on it way to me and I'll have it on Thursday (yay warranty :))
So, the advice I...
Hi guys,
Occassionally I seem to be getting BSODs on Win8.
<Now imagine the 2001 Space Odyssey theme music at this point - I realise some people will be too young to really know this film>
It's all Hals fault!
Anyways, BlueScreenView (a small application for looking at blue screen dumps)...
