Got Mint 19.2 (xfce) installed on a new Fusion III (14"). Seems to be working well. But for the second time this week wifi has suddenly cut off.
The problem survived rebooting. On another reboot I poked around in the bios, but there is no mention of wifi at all. I searched syslog and saw it...
I've mint 19 xfce installed, and was originally using the 4.15 default kernel.
The function keys all worked out of the box, except for brightness. (I've been watching https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1775065 which I think is related.)
So I eventually installed xbacklight...
Been using this i7-9700K Octane V for a couple of months. I noticed within the first week it was taking 20 minutes to run something that used to take less than 10 minutes on the i7-7700K machine (Octane III I think). But it has taken this long to sit down and run the Geekbench benchmark on them...
New Octane V laptop, bought with no OS.
But it comes pre-installed with cursed Windows. I've got Linux Mint 19 on a USB stick, plugged in, but each time I restart the computer, Windows setup always starts.
I've so far guessed Esc, F1, F9, F10, Del as the key to try and get into the bios.
The...
The 15" Octane V offers a choice between a 230W and a 330W AC Adapter. Clicking the "?" shows two identical pictures of cute little AC adapters, that I doubt are actual photos ;-)
How do I choose? Is there a difference in size/weight? (There is no difference in price.)
Part two of my question...
ANSWER SUMMARY: You need kernel 4.8 or later to work with the AC-8265 wifi card in the Octane. Most linux distros are still on 4.4 or earlier, so you will need a wired ethernet connection to do the initial updates before you can get wifi working. However Ubuntu 16.04.2 (released in Feb) should...
Got the new notebook, ordered without OS, yesterday. Was surprised on boot to be asked date/locale questions, thinking this is a sophisticated bios - turns out Windows was leftover from testing. Reboot, and switched off UEFI in the bios. But I saw only options for boot from windows drive or...
An accident with a cup of tea broke the keyboard on my current notebook (but thankfully nothing else), forcing me to carry around a USB keyboard for the past couple of years! I thought I'd bolt the door before the horse escapes this time, and get a keyboard cover for my (on-order) Octane 15.6"...
For an OctaneIII-15, I'd been thinking a 512GB SM961 m2.ssd drive. Now I'm (finally!) ready to order, only 128, 256, 1TB or 2TB are listed! Is this a form error, a discontinued, or a temporary out-of-stock, and if the latter, can you tell me when you'll have them back in.
Also, can you tell me...
