I am one of the people who have had the issue of the fan speed in their Optimus V 17.3" and still have not been able to fix it.
I have seen that there is a EC firmware update that fixes it, but I do not know how to install this update.

I have not managed to load the distro "Backtrack" from a live usb I made.
This live usb works perfectly fine in my desktop.
When trying to load it in my Optimus V it throws an execption that reads:
