Thanks for the response.
I agree with your sentiment and will be posing these questions to PCS tomorrow. Ill see what they think the underlying issues are. If they take the line that this is just what you should expect with a slim chassis, ill be returning it straight away (only...

I agree entirely. I am still ringing PCS tomorrow to speak to them about whether they feel these temps are acceptable with this setup. However, I wanted to post this solution for anyone else who may be experiencing these type of issues and are maybe outside of their warranty period...
Another update in my quest to tame the thermals on this build.
I received some advice about the following:
On throttlestop when you press the tpl button next to fvir you can set the tdp draw. Mine was pulling 70w on hw monitor which is pretty high considering the cpu.. I set the short term...
I appreciate your comments. I think I'll spend the weekend conducting further tests and then phone PCS first thing Monday and see what they think about it.
Thanks for the reply. So there's something up with the system? Bad paste job? It does seem to be the same cores peaking out each time. I just ran cinebench again to test with the undervolt:
Still running pretty hot. I really don't want to repaste, nor do I think I should have to on a £1500...
A quick update. Managed to use throttlestop to undervolt the CPU core and cache by -140mV and the Intel GPU by -50mV. This led to a better score in Timespy and lower, more manageable max CPU temps. Results below:
I'm thinking mid-80s is fairly reasonable. I am going to get a cooling pad in...
okay, after a refresh of the graphic drivers, i finally managed to get some proper benchmarks done.
3d mark Skydiver
3d Mark Fire Strike
3D Mark Time Pilot
A quick blast in Aida64 Extreme
As you can see, the cpu max temps are a bit eye watering in places. Also, I am manually...
Hi Everyone

Hi,
I haven't been keeping up with the new Super RTX cards, but will they extend to laptop versions? Thinking of ordering a laptop with a 2060RTX in it. Is it worth holding out for next week? Are there going to be new laptop versions?
So the thread ended up getting slightly derailed, however I totally take SlimCini's points about the 5400rpm HDD and will be swapping that out for another SSD.
Any comments on my other original questions much appreciated.
Cheers for the swift reply.
1. Thanks for the Windows tip. That software geeks link is mad - how can resellers do those kind of prices legitimately? The OS would be getting set up on the SSD, the HDD was just for back-up and file management. Most daily stuff would be on the SSD.
2. Bit...
Hi Everyone.
After much deliberating, I think I'm about ready to pull the trigger on the following build, but have a few questions....
Chassis & Display
Vortex Series: 15.6" Matte Full HD 144Hz LED Widescreen (1920x1080) + G-Sync
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™ i7 Six Core Processor 9750H...
Thanks for the helpful advice. On reflection, I think I am going to wait for some reviews to roll in for the defiance 16.1 and the new vortex. If the build quality holds up and there's no major issues with thermals, I'll probably go for one of them. Will take your advice about the WD ssd's...
Hi All
I am looking to build a light(ish), portable laptop for doing graphic, video and 3d work on the go. I'll mainly be doing realtime graphic processing using software like max/msp/jitter and vvvv, hence the 2070. I'll also be doing some work in Houdini, for which I need as much ram as...
