Hi, looking for any advice to get a 3070 build below £1500

I'll most likely be using a 1440p 144hz monitor

Also wondering, this motherboard already has wifi, but will it be any good?

And what version of graphics card will this be if not founders edition?

I would look at changing to latest Ryzen 7 5800x and motherboard to match - that is a good improvement over previous CPU’s and will be something else not requiring upgrading.

Also consider an upgrade of the M.2 to Samsung 980Pro - take advantage of PCIe 4.0

potentially cooling to 115i

what are you real storage requirements?

I have tons of stuff on Steam, Epic etc, however a part from a handful of games I leave them in cloud uninstalled, it take no time to download them.

however for me it’s the case, £57 to provide airflow, cooling fans etc for a high end graphics card etc.

getting base build good makes upgrading graphics cards in future a simple task.

Choosing parts that benefit the overall thermal build, goes a long way to improving overall life of the PC.

does it blow you budget yes, does it give you a really good base, pretty much yes.

personally you cannot get a 1440p 3070 build below £1500 without major compromise of the build.

The first upgrade will always be the GPU, no matter if you were to get the 3090 or the 3060ti, there's zero point to overspeccing the GPU. It's much better to build a stong platform that can cope with the upgrades you'll be doing down the line, otherwise you dramatically reduce the lifetime of the build.

Hi there, these cards were released today, so are in stock currently, although how quickly that stock goes, is anyones guess.

For a 1440p 144hz gaming experience for a budget of £1600, this is what I'd suggest.

The Ryzen 5 5600X is actually a better performer than the previous generation Ryzen 7 chips and upgrading to a current gen R7, would realisitically take you out of budget. For a gaming build you'll want to up to the TUF B550 board. 3200mhz is the sweetspot for Ryzen right right now and you'd only see a minor increase in frames by swapping to 3600mhz. For storage, I've changed to a fast Samsung 500GB SSD for your Windows 10 and applications, then a seperate 1TB M.2 SSD for your games then the 2TB HDD for general file storage. I've upgraded to the RM850 as it's a higher quality, fully modular PSU and with 100 more watts, which will run the system more comfortably and allow more space for upgrades in the future. I've switched out the PCS cooler for the Cooler Master 240 AIO as we know more about it and know it's a good cooler for the 5600X, I've removed the wifi card as the Motherboard has the same AX200 wireless card built in, it also comes to a little cheaper than having the seperate card. And the anti-virus has been known to cause issues so it's been removed.

“I don’t know much about the AMD GPU’s”. Realistically I’m in the same boat. Checking benchmarks is about the only way to gauge it for me. It never seems to be below the 3060TI it’s generally between the 3080 and 3070 from memory. As we normally recommend a 3070 to max out a 1440p 144hz monitor the 6700XT will do an amazing job at it and may be considered overkill, but it is also £30 cheaper at its current price so represents great value. (I wouldn’t be surprised if that shoots up). I normally use all of Tech Spots reviews for benchmarks as it shows it against a great range of cards on a number of games. As @SpyderTracks has said, you’ll be waiting a while anyway. Due to the sheer amount of orders there’s just a long queue. There’s a chance that they’ll do the same for the 6700XT as they did for the 3060 and get orders out very quickly when they had stock of that card to try and reduce the average wait times a bit, but I don’t want to say I know they’ll do that, because I obviously don’t.

The other thing that should be a consideration, is that the 3060TI can’t even be ordered right now. Why that is I’m unsure, maybe to reduce the queue size a bit, maybe they didn’t know when the next delivery was going to be so put orders on hold. Realistically that’s speculation from me and it could be any number of reasons.

What I’d say is go for the build you want and accept the wait. If you want a 6700XT go for it. If you’d rather a 3060TI, just take the wait. If you play your cards right, that PC that should last you 6 or more years if upgraded correctly so in the grand scheme of things, A few month wait is not a lot of time. Plus you’ll be happier in the long run when you go for the spec you actually wanted over one you got to get the PC quickly.
