I want to spend £800 on a tower (not including operating system) tops on a PC for WoW, CoH2, possibly other real-time strategy games and any forthcoming Total War games in the next year,

I've not bought a computer for 10 years and I'm not confident in my knowledge and would really appreciate help.

I was thinking:

Case: (absolutely no idea)
Processor: AMD A10-7870K APU 3.9ghz quad core APU
Motherboard: ASUS® A68HM PLUS FM2+
Graphics card: 4GB GEFORCE GTX 970 grahics card
RAM: 16GB HYPER-X FURY
1TB 3.5" SATA-III 6GB/s hard drive
SSD Drive (what's this, do I need one?)
Standard dvd drive
650w Corsair Power Supply
Corsair H55 CPU Cooler
ARCTIC MX-4 thermal paste
Standard sound card

Thanks,

David

8GB of ram is enough for gaming i believe. SSD is a Solid State Drive, it's basically faster storage than HDD but you are on a tight budget so wouldn't suggest it. Intel processor would perform better hence i threw in i5 there. All in all, it would be pretty balanced system to run your mentioned games on high/ultra settings.

Thanks for your time. I think I will go for for the intel processor after further reading. I could stretch to this, does it look ok? Am I correct in thinking this has space for more RAM if I'd like to upgrade from 16gb to 32gb? (my last pc had 512mb...)

Looks good overall, but drop to 8GB of RAM and spend that money on a small SSD or a better graphics card :)

George is spot on, 8GB RAM is fine, you probably wont even use all of that but a small SSD as first drive will dramatically increase boot up times and the load times of the main programmes you have on it.

Thanks for the replies. Is the 128GB M.2 2280 SSD Drive fine?

Which graphics card would be the next step up?

I'll push to £850 not including operating system I think.

That looks good, thanks you. Is there anything else worth spending a little more on?

Also omeone told me the graphics card is too powerful for the processor and will bottleneck it, doesn't sound right to me.

Someone just told me that the processor might bottleneck due to the graphics card being too powerful, I don't agree, thoughts?

It's not that much more really to upgrade to an I7 4.0ghz processor really and sounds much more appealing, I might just up more budget a little more.

They're wrong, people that use the word bottleneck is used way too often. The CPU you had before would've botttlenecked it, but the i5 is perfectly good with any GPU :)

George is correct and although it is not much more to upgrade it would be money wasted, the i5 will handle all your needs well, better to use any extra cash on a new game or something else you want/need.
