17.3" Vortex IV Changing Components

I was wondering what components I will be able to change with the 17.3" Vortex IV laptop. I don't want to spend £2000 to later find out that my system is being out dated (although that may take a while, I hope) or if I feel the need to change something due to failure, etc.

You can upgrade components like the memory, cpu and graphics BUT CPU and graphics are tied to what the chassis and motherboard can support. It's likely say if you get a GTX870m that you could definitely upgrade to a GTX880m, but perhaps not a 900m series card as it's possible it would have a different footprint to the existing and wouldn't fit.

CPU again, you'll probably be fine upgrading to any within the range that you've bought, but if the socket changes on the next iteration of i7, then the motherboard won't be able to fit it.

So it's a bit of a gamble. It may be worth contacting PCS and seeing if they know when the Vortex may be upgraded to the V and wait until then as that will maximise your upgrade cycle.

Alright I will email them. So upgrading ram shouldn't be a problem then? or does that also depend on the motherboard?

You would only have a problem if the ram is soldered onto the motherboard but with this model It isn't.
Just make sure the modules are compatible as in buy the same as you have already installed in the machine.

Also, did it make any unusual noises when the PC hard locked? Clicking noises, rumbling sounds etc

That's good to know. I don't have the laptop yet, just planning on buying it. :)
