Hello all

My PC is in the building phase, woohoo!

I can't decide which monitor to get and im hoping for some advice here.

Im interested in a 3 monitor set up and am thinking of getting 3 120hz monitors. Will my rig be powerful enough to get above 60fps on 3 monitors in games like BF3? I mostly play FPS titles.

This is my system:
Overclocked Intel® Core™i7-2600k Quad Core (3.40GHz @ max 4.80GHz)

Motherboard
ASUS® P8P67 PRO (NEW REV 3.0): USB 3.0/SATA 6Gb/s, CrossFireX™ & SLI

Memory (RAM)
8GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz, X.M.P (2 x 4GB KIT)

Graphics Card
1.25GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 570 - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready

2nd Graphics Card
1.25GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 570 - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready

Memory - 1st Hard Disk
1.5TB WD CAVIAR BLACK WD1502FAEX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64MB CACHE (7200rpm)

If anyone has any advice it would be great. Each day i change my mind and its doing my head in. Im used to gaming on a single 24" Dell monitor so I dont really want anything less than that. Im a little disapointed most new monitors seem to be 16:9 as I much prefer the extra height of the 16:10 monitors and I imagine ill miss it even more with a surround config.

hard to tell but looking from vids and articles you should have no probs or be fine to hit 60fps with an sli 570 setup for bf3 but for others then i believe you should be without probs. i dont really know whats it like with 3 monitors as i prefer my fps on a single monitor for sharper aim in my view but it should be fine to hit about 60 or over.

No idea if I prefer single or multiple monitors either to be honest! lol. Im gonna unbox them very carefully incase I send them back.

I tested a 3d monitor the other day. The 3D looked good but I didn't like the effect while gaming. Just wish I tested its 2D performance more before sending it back.

all the benchmarks ive seen are not for 3D because one 570 would play bf3 maxed out no problem on perhaps higher than 1080p resolution

If you're after a multimonitor set up for gaming I'd really go with AMD for their Eyefinity tech. Nvidia's niche is 3D gaming at the moment.

No, because 3 monitors gives you a lot of width so you can view lots of different things alongside each other, basically a 3 monitor setup is equivalent to 5760x1080 and a large tv screen couldn't do close to that :) (admittedly a lot of that is due to the fact its the wrong shape, but still).
Gives a lot more useable area pretty much

lmao ive seen a 9 x 50" cube set up for visuals it looks astounding i should of recorded it and in 3d its scarey haha :D and yah i see yr point rakk its all about attention to detail :D i just find that the multi monitor set ups take just way too much room :S and myself i cant get used to the edges of the monitors to make it worth while :(

ive played bfbc2 on a 50 inch for over a year now and although it sounds good the distance from the screen is quite difficult to play with im now buying a system from pcs and from the rewiews ive seen the asus vg236he which pcs stock is one of the best allrounders as in 2d and 3d but at 700 for the 3 monitors is not something you want to shell out and not be totally impressed and back to the other option a tv from what other reviews are saying if you do go for a tv you need a nvidia compatible one (mitsubishi tvs are apparently the best for this, yes they dont just make cars)

I'm very sorry to post in this thread a few months late...

I am also considering investing in 3 x 120hz Monitors to use in a surround/surround 3d environment.

I have 2 GTX 570's and I have no issues running games like BF BC2 and Just Cause 2 on High Settings in 3D at a resolution of 1680x1050. I am now tempted to get 3 24" 3D monitors but I am concerned my GTX 570 SLI setup will just not be able to run games like BF3, Skyrim etc at 5760x1080 resolutions due to the 1.25GB memory.

What are people's thoughts on this setup? Does anyone have any experience with this kind of setup?

I currently have a Samsung 22" 120Hz 3D monitor running at 1680x1050....so perhaps an alternative is to get 2 more of these and run the games at 5040x1050?

Failing all of this it will have to be a single 27" monitor.

Any feedback/suggestions/warnings etc. would be much appreciated.

The alternative is a single 27" 120Hz 3D monitor which I am sure I will have no problems with.

I think at the moment, multi-monitor 3D displays aren't possible and it is limited to single monitors. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

People with 2 x 1.5GB GTX580 struggle to get decent fps over 3 3D monitors, so with 2 x 1.25GB GTX 570 it will be even harder. For a 3 monitor setup that is 3D i suggest 3GB GTX580. You need 2 of them just for the 3D. So its up to you.

Thanks for the quick replies.

How would the 570's perform for 2D surround? Will the 1.25GB cap be a problem in this scenario as well?
