We are pleased to announce that we can now offer a 2nd hard disk drive option on our complete range of laptops!

With the exception of the 17.3" Vortex II, (which has always supported two hard drives by default) you can now select a 2nd hard drive which will fit into the optical drive bay and which will be totally disguised by the design of the bay.

Here's an example of what it will look like on the inside:

And just to confirm if you go for 2 hard drives - you will NOT be able to use a DVD/CD/Bluray drive - Which means if you need to install drivers from the CD or reinstall windows from the CD if something goes wrong, you wont be able to!

If/when these are available, we will offer them. We're still struggling to source 60% -70% matte screens for 15.6" chassis.

Just to clarify the Optimus II 17.3 has the two HDD bays and an optical bay already? So I can install my own OS without having to boot from USB or anything like that.

I don't believe this is true (from what I remember in the configuration beforehand), but wait for someone else to clarify.

No - the only laptop that has two HDD bays already is the Vortex II. If you wanted two HDDs on the Optimus II you would have to sacrifice the internal ODD.

Is there an option when ordering a laptop to get an optical drive case (as an extra maybe ? ) so you can swap between hdd/and optical drives ?

Has anyone else fitted one of these? I picked mine up today and it doesn't fit. The SATA connections on the caddy are at a different height from the internal connections and therefore doesn't fit right. The DVD just slips in and out really quickly, the HD caddy doesn't it's a really tight fit.

It's a tight fit, and needs a little attention to slot this in. They do fit correctly though and once you change over the bezel from your DVD drive it will fit perfectly.

I eventually fixed it with a screwdriver. The SATA connections were at about 7mm on the caddy wilst 5.5mm on the DVD, so with a little persuation, I've now fitted the 750GB drive too.

Plenty storage space for the moment.

Why is the new 1TB Scorpio blue only available as a 2nd hard drive for the vortex 17

It shouldn't actually be listed yet and has been removed, as there is a slight delay on the stock arriving. Thanks for pointing this out.

How much does the HDD caddy cost for the 15.6" Optimus II? And does installing it void warranty in any way?
