3 Questions Before Ordering

Hi everyone,

Finally made up my mind, I'll be ordering the Octane III this upcoming Monday, but before I do that I would like to ask a few questions.
The first question I would like to ask is regarding the RAM and if more modules are better (i.e. 4x8GB vs 2x16GB). I'll be using this laptop mainly for gaming. I've considered getting 32GBs, but recently I've heard people saying that 16GBs is a better option. What is your opinion on this?

The second question would be regarding storage. I'm looking to have my OS installed on a Samsung PM961 M.2 256GBs. As far as the second storage drive is concerned, I am oscilating between a 1TB WD Black HDD or a 500GB Samsung 750 SSD. What do you guys suggest?

Finally, I am probably going to fast track the build time cause I'm too hyped to wait 13 days for it to be built lol. My concern is that this fast track might affect the quality of the build, is this a possibility? :sweatdrop:

Thank you very much in advance!

It will not affect the quality of the build, basically all the fast track does is skip the big queue to get into building :), the actual building and testing take the same amount of time whether its fast-tracked or not.

As far as performance goes it doesn't really matter in the real world if you have 2 or 4 modules. I always stick to a lower number of modules as it lets you upgrade more easily in the future.

In terms of your second drive, it depends on how you plan to use it. if you can fit the majority of your favourite games and application on a 256Gb drive then id opt for the 1TB HDD for the mass storage. if you don't need too much extra storage for photos etc then the 500GB drive would be a faster option, so its kinda dependant on your circumstances.

As Rakk said its just skips you ahead of everyone else so quality is not impacted.

Regarding Fast Track. 2 days ago I received my Octane 3 and it took 3 full working days from ordering. I did not add any M.2 as I am sourcing a 1TB one separately due to PCS having no stock. This probably helped the 3 day turnaround. Early days but build quality, system setup, packaging is all 1st rate. I have seen no reason to worry about a 'rushed job'. What's more if PCS cannot make the 3 or 5 day turnaround they will refund you.

Memory wise I went for 32GB (2x16GB) which I know is overkill but I see this beast lasting a long time and who knows what the future will bring. If you do add more memory yourself have in mind that the 3rd and 4th bank are tucked away and need a stripdown to get too.

Re the fast tracking. I only put in an order the other day and there are some things out of stock which did not get listed as being out of stock before I placed the order. so If I had paid
extra for the fast tracking my order would still be sitting there due to out of stock components! in my case one of the things is not due to be back in stock until 15th Nov!

It won't let you fast track if any of the components are out of stock, so you wouldn't have been able to anyway.
