Hi All

Need some advice. I currently have aN amd 6870 but i/m struggling to play Crysis 2 or Witcher 2 at max settings 1080p. I'm thinking about crossfiring it, but does the second card have to be an AMD or can it be xfx hd6870?

Also can you check if this psu is ample enough for crossfire

It can be xfx, you can crossfire any brand of that model series, for example you could crossfire a msi 5870 with a xfx 5850 (this only applies to crossfire and not sli), the brands simpley have settings/heatsinks which are unique to each brand but in essence the cards are the same. Also yes that PSU will be enough however it will be used to nigh full capacity (this isnt a problem but it does mean it will be on nearly full whack all the time thus could potentially shorten its life span). Hope it helps

You'll need to check specifically which 6870 you have against the XFX one, if the one you currently have has a factory overclock you'll need to buy a second identical one and if the XFX one has a factory overclock but the one you currently have doesn't then try and find one without an overclock on.

It surely wont make a difference, why else do ati (now amd) state that you can crossfire different cards of the same series (example: 5870 crossfired with 5850), this will have some obvious differences such as clock speed, but the architecture is the same, thus a slightly different clock speed of two brands should not invalidate crossfire.

I'm just echoing what i've read from other hardware sites over the last year or so, It may not cause any problems but I don't know for sure.
