7970m driver info

Is there some new info regarding drivers for this card??? As I'm a owner of this card in vortex 3 for almost 4 months now and no support yet, and basically some games are unplayable. I saw the "sticky" thread about drivers but that is way back from jun. The problem actually isn't not clocking to 3d clocks but some kind of weird enduro energy saving , that causes the card not to by fully utilize in some games and situations.
I made a whole log about games running not right with videos, and pictures, an also many others did- so you can check more detailed about the problem here
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...ues-only-post-logs-no-questions-please-2.html

So PC specialist, is there some new updates, or news about the drivers?? will we see some fix in the near future or if possible should I also (like many others) change my card to gtx 680m ???

Still? Blimey ATI had better pull there finger out. I thought the 12.8 mobility drivers covered all mobility cards. Not one specific.

Jop 12.8 didn't fix anything, actually that driver isn't even compatible with the 7970m in clevo couse it doesant inslude intel drivers. I heard that they are avare of the the issue, but I want some kind of eta or update as it is 4 months htat I own this laptop and I still cannot use it properly.

well, it took Nvidia 1.5 years to sort out optimus and it's still not totally without problems

Yes but altought they had issues, the nvidia cards with optimus were still ussable and could play games with the level of performance the should. The situation around 7970m is just so frustrating, cant play bf3 multi, couse of enduro crippling, so I just bought sleeping dogs and the game performe the same- the lower your settings are the lower your utilization is and fps remains the same.

I am with you on this one and this seems to be developing in to a bit of a farce for AMD/Clevo. The good thing is that the issue is gathering recognition which at least may put pressure on all parties involved to get this sorted.

I do share disappointment in that I asked question before ordering my vortex 3 if the 7970m was good or whether to wait and got reassured it was the best to buy! Now i am sitting with an expensive lemon that is easily beaten by my old 5870 in the desktop from 3 years ago. It seems just strange that in June this was the dogs proverbial and no one knew there were issues bar some missing driver support.
The whole idea of it being ok to sell these products without formal driver support from AMD at that time just feels wrong. I know 680GTX was released in similar circumstances so I guess that is what it takes these days to get a decent gaming laptop but then at least manufactures should own up to the issues.

Wondering if PCSPECIALIST is going to offer an upgrade service so at least we can enjoy our laptops for what they were intended to do i.e. gaming?

Yeah the performance is relly poor, even my old laptop 5870m was performing better at some poin!!!

As I own the 150em with 7970m for 3 moths now, I probably dont have the nerves to last with this card anymore as there is no info, if a fix is comming, and try to do everything possible to swith to 680m.

So pcspecialist , can I ask, is there a possibility to swamp the gpu for a gtx680m?? offcourse for the upgrade cost-I think 150 pounds.
But I cannot affort to be without a laptop, so is there a possibility to ship a gtx680m with a return post box so I can send back the 7970m? I can do the swamp myself with no problem.
I heard that some other comapanies offered this sort of swamp.

thaks

best regards

ive just ordered my laptop with the 7970m driver. Do you guys recommend me ammending my order (its currently in pre-production stage) to the 680m?

Deffinitelly, this is the worst time to order a 7970m as amd's catalyst creator stated that they are ivestigating the issue, but nobody know if a fix for enduro will come or not. If you have the extra cash go with the 680m - it works great out of the box and runs a bit coolers. The main diffrence is that it works normally where the 7970m doesn't and for enthusiasm gamers its basicly unusable and for casual gamers annoyng.

Thanks for the advice marhask
I shall cancel my order in that case and reorder with the 680m.

I'm just surprised at how AMD can put a graphics card out on the market when it is clearly so flawed.

I'll agree that AMD really need to pull their finger out and start releasing some official drivers for the 7970M but I haven't actually had any problems with the custom Clevo ones provided by PCS on disc thus far. And been trying out quite a few games over the past few days. I'd describe the graphics switching as slightly annoying rather than unusable, sometimes it defaults to power saving (Intel 4000) for some games and applications when it shouldn't but after changing them to use high performance have encountered no issues.

What particular titles are you guys having trouble with?

I know we should have offical drivers but the ones PCS/Clevo provided are doing the job for me, I have a 7970m maxing - DayZ,Diablo3,BF3(multiplayer),Rift,Starcraft2...and I haven't had any trouble, you can hear when the 7970m starts working and the 4000 stops as it tends to raw like a monsster

Hmm ... for me BF3 is OK as long as I stay on single player and low player count multi (<16). Anything above that, especially Karkand and get massive dips when turning left/right in busy scenes (less than 25 fps ) and gpu usage is just not ramping up to compensate. Majority of people have not realised they had the problem until you actively run MSI overlay and see the dips for yourself. The main issue is that when you reduce AA and detail, it stays that low, so you just can't avoid these dips ....

Another badly affected game is Saints Row Third where frame rate regularly again drops to about 20fps with usage staying very low (50%). Can't attach screen shots atm as laptop is not with me ...

Actually everybody with 7970m with clevo EM models, even other retailers comfirmed it and many othere members at Notebookreview.
THere was even a affficial logging thread started by sager which was than closed couse amd requested. Members than did there own logging thread, so if you wanna see some of the problems detaily described you can check my log here: (mahalsk)

This issue isn't noticed by casual gamers or peple that play the few games that arent affected, but for enthusiasm gamers( which this notebook is probably for) its basicly unusable. We can get good ussage for example in bf3 multi with 16 player in ultra 99% most of the time but you get 25-50 fps which istn good enough for a fast paced shotter. You need atleast stable 50< and lowering settings lets say to medium results in almost same fps(with dips) 20-60 and ussage is getting as low as 40%. Its' like the graphics card is shoving the middle finger...
recently I bought Sleeping dogs which is a sandbox open game, as bf 3 multi which I play mostly is unplaeyble whit this dips for me, but it playes even worse. It is okay when I run inside buildings but once I enter open roads and drive around the game playes choppy at around 15 fps no matter what settings- the lower the settings are- the lower ussage I get. Btw the game should be playeble at perfect 60 fps- so should BF3 at medium-high setttings. and around 35-50 on ultra.

So please PCspecialist provide some update if theres some progres from amd in fixing this, or some kind of other alternative as I dont wanna be stuck with a 1500£ laptop that isn't working properly..

I didn't suggest you were wrong, I merely stated I've yet to come across any apparent issues.

Well I would describe myself as a casual gamer these days but that doesn't mean all casual gamers can't notice fps dips... will go on BF3 multi on a large 64 player map now and report back. And yes I did read your thread. :)

Yep I see what you mean about ultra and medium. I wouldn't expect ultra to be fully playable on this card anyway but medium and high should be reachable. But yup something going on there which is weird given that single player is absolutely fine.

Yop singleplayer is ok, But multiplayer is terrible. As form me its even wore as I bought a this laptom mainly for bf 3 multi. I found the karkand maps which are a bit more demanding unplayeble at more than 32 players. It dips down to even lower than 20 fps and lowering to even low doesant help. It just cuts my skills so badly, I can shot a whole clip on somebody runnign without hitting hin, cause the crappy inconsistant fps. The only maps that play right are close quarters maps with like 16to 24 players. Actually operation 927 doesant play righ either.
And as I see how the karkand and larger maps play I just can imagine how bad the Armored kill maps will play...
It would be okay if there just would be some kind of anoucment form either amd or sager/clevo if its going to be fixed ar should I do some other steps.

Almost ordered a 7970M with a Vortex III as it's pretty much same performance level as the 680M for a lot less money. But with the Enduro problems currently plaguing the card and no fix on the horizon (Clevo BIOS, AMD drivers or otherwise) I'm considering paying for the 680M even though I know it doesn't really net me any performance improvement over (a non Enduro gimped) 7970M... :(

I was looking through reddit on the guild wars 2 section and came across this:
http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=367954

Under supported cards is:
AMD6800.1 = "AMD Radeon HD 7970M"
I dont even have the 7970m myself, just wondering if this info was useful for any of you.

P.S: Do this at your own risk, read the thread first for CCC problems etc.
