In my desktop I am currently using a Radeon HD 5770 (and don't have trouble running games on max setting & max res). I am wondering how much better this mobile gpu will be? The 5770 is quite old now, but one of the best 'cheap' cards around, and the 7970M isn't even out yet, but I am still wondering how it compares to desktop gpus, and more of how much of an improvement it would be to me.

7970M vs 5770

i ve been using 5770 for 3 years now....i also have the vortex II with 6990m.....6990m is more powerful than 5770...to make it simple
1. 6990m>5770
2. 6990m more or less like 6950 destop version
3. new 7970m according to notebookreview is like 6990m crossfire..
4. with 6990m in my vortex i could play bf3 1080p in high but i prefer medium for constant 60fps.
6. if u want to upgrade cheap gpu for desktop i recommend 6950 which can be bios mod to become 6970 (they are basically the same card)
I currently waiting pcspecialist/notebookreview to be able to put 7970m into vortexII/np8170hm and if that happened i wait no futher to upgrade my 6990m
