About to buy new PC

I am about to buy new PC

My Budget is around 2 000

I want to do video editing (mostly 1080, bit 4k) also Gaming (WOW, COD, LOL, GTAV, Planetside2 etc)

I did alot of reading, and here is what i came up with.
I am not sure if I should go with 8700k or 1800x (also was thinking of 7800x because of 299 for future upgrades? sounds too expensive tho)
should I wait for z390 Motherboard?

Please suggest on anything and everything

I would say that this is a bad idea. There's no guarantee at all that future gen CPUs will be compatible with these motherboards. The 8700k is flat out a better performer than the 7800x. And buying a £400 CPU now only to upgrade with with a, say, £800 CPU from the same generation a few years later is just a terrible use of cash.

This is a fair question. The 1800x is more expensive than the 8700k, in the context of PCS builds anyway, last time I looked. The 1800x high slightly better multithreaded performance, but in software like Adobe Premiere Pro the 8700k overall outperforms it:


It also has higher gaming performance.

So I would lean towards the i7 8700k for your uses.

should I wait for z390 Motherboard?

That's up to you. I've not followed it closely, but I haven't seen people swearing off Coffee Lake CPUs until Z390 is out. It shouldn't really affect performance at all.


The biggest recommendation I have to make is to check out the Ultima X01 in the Review section: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/configure-review/238/

It has about £1700's worth of hardware for a discounted £1479 price, including an i7 8700k, 16gb 3000MHz DDR4, a GTX 1080, a 256gb NVMe SSD, and a 1Tb WD Black HDD. Also has a 650W gold-rated, modular PSU and an H100i V2 CPU cooler.

You can also get a 4k gsync monitor like the 28" Acer XB281HK (which if you google is on sale for £400 at the moment). And you'd still have enough left over for your other bits and bobs, plus extra storage or a wifi card if you wanted, possibly with some £ left over from your quote above.

I assume you're going for 4k for video editing purposes, with an understanding that you'll sometimes have to play games at lower resolutions / lower settings?

Note that a GTX 1070 ti and GTX 1080 will not do very well at 4k in more demanding modern games. WoW and some of the others probably you're fine. So G-Sync will be extremely useful to smooth out the gaming experience.

Just few questions on your opinion
Is 4k monitor from my spe not recommended? I read some reviews on one you recomended (predator) it seems it is more for gaming, and some people reported bad pixelation when doing anything but gaming. I would prefer monitor for video editing over gaming.
Also how about liquid cooler, I'm bit afraid of a leak. Although I never had one. What are your thoughts on this.
Im thinking to go with your recommendation on PC, but I'm not sure about monitor.

All in one liquid coolers are extremely popular and extremely unlikely to leak. I haven't seen it mentioned as an issue on PCS's forums. Corsair have also been known to replace components damaged by liquid from any leak, and their coolers usually have 5 year warranties. It's not a substantial risk factor.

I don't think PCS wouldn't sell them if there was any realistic chance it would cause them to have to replace more systems / components

As for the monitor, reviews from individual users on website product pages can indicate bad units rather than a fault with the design. I'd suggest focusing on professional reviews.

Also, any monitor you buy, you should buy from a place with a good returns policy, as there's always a chance of dead pixels or excessive bleed etc. If the professional reviews suggest it should be good for your uses, I would go with that - and if you get a bad unit, then return it.

Note that the Samsung is also a budget (possibly even more budget) TN panel. But as it lacks gsync your gaming experience is going to be more restricted at 4k.

New PC for Editing/ 4k Editing / Gaming - all comments are welcome

I want to do multiple operations with my PC
50% Editing 10% 4K editing, and 40% Gaming

I use Adobe Cloud for Editing/FX. For games I Play WOW, LOL, GTAV, ARK.

Please suggest other or comment current 4k monitor/s, and all other bits.
My budget is around £2 000 (i went over due to better power supply, larger case to fit air cooler, and m.2 SSD) worth it?
Also I cant decide weather to go with liquid or air cooler. Im not convinced with water coolers(do i need to change water at some point? also when changing parts in future, ill probably going to need to disassemble it?)
Is Noctua NH-U14S air cooler worth bigger case?

The TUF is a lot more than the Z370P and doesn't offer much more. If getting a better mobo go for the Ultra Gaming that has a lot more features.

I'd reiterate my suggestion that the Ultima is much better value, and that for gaming at 4k you should really consider gsync and powerful GPU unless you really like stutter.

It's easy to install a wifi card to a build. Alternatively there are wifi USB adapters which will be just as good. You can also consider homeplugs / powerline adapters which basically let you use your house's electricity cables as a wired network.

I don't know this monitor. Looking at the customer reviews on Amazon quite a few people had faults with theirs. However, that doesn't necessarily mean anything. As above, I'd get a monitor from a store with a good returns policy so that if there are any issues you can send it back.
