Adding a SSD into my PCS laptop?

Hi all,

I have ordered the 15.6" Optimus X - hopefully arriving shortly. I ordered a 1TB M2 SSD - but no other storage, so I have the storage drive slot free.

I own a Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB 2.5 inch SSD. Can I ask..

1) Can I add this into the storage drive slot? (is it relatively easy?)
2) The Samsung currently has my OS on for an old PC that I have - how do I wipe the OS from it so I can use it just for storing files?

Yes, it will be easy to add, you just expose the 2.5” SATA bay and slot it in.

then boot into windows, go to storage manager. Find the disk, it will likely have a few partitions on it. Delete all partitions creating a block of unused space, right click and create a partition using all the space and if necessary assign it a drive letter.

That’s it really. If you need any help when you get it let us know.

When you say 'expose' I presume I will need a screwdriver etc?

And will the fact that it has an OS on it screw with anything at all? (e.g. you say boot into windows and go to storage manager - but I will actually have two 'windows' installed in the laptop if you see what I mean?)

Yes, you’ll need to remove the bottom panel.

when you install an OS it sets a flag in the boot sector of the primary drive.

because that ssd was installed on a separate system, it won’t have a boot flag on the new laptop so it shouldn't be registered as a boot drive.

Ok just tried to do it. I undid all the screws on the back (several round the sides and then 3 in the middle - but the back wouldn't come off? Any advice?
