Adding memory

hi. I am trying to add memory to my laptop with a Notebook N85_N87HCHNHZmotherboard. The bios is not seeing the memory and i am unable to tab to the memory section to get it to look. HWinfo can see the new memory, but sadly the bios doesnt and hence neither does windows.
Any advice gratefully taken

Hi , it is a PC specialist. Original spec from order - it is running Windows. I want to add memory to it as i am using it for working from home.

Sure you did this but is it exactly the same type of memory. If not that could be the issue.
If you are able to return the new memory you have it may be worth checking the upgrade section on your account, that will only offer stuff which will work on your machine.

i purchased a RAM module, identical to the 8GB above from the same manufacturer, so one would expect it to work and not be stuck at 12 GB

Not sure but seem to remember a thread where the poster bought same RAM but then found a slight voltage difference, that is worth checking.

Not only must the voltage of the new RAM match but ALL the timings must match as well. Buying RAM can be a minefield.
