Advice for first PC

Hey,

Finally looking to buy a gaming PC and would appreciate some advice as I have little to no idea of the best spec for me.

Would not be used for highly demanding games. Mainly League of Legends and HOI4 at the moment and also as an all-rounder for general surfing of the web and watching films etc.

Budget is around £600 - £700.

I see there is a pre-configured build at this price point: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/view/Vortex-Elite/

Any good or should I be looking to change a few things up?

Cheers

Wow thanks very much for the advice and for getting back to me so quickly.

Couple of questions on that if you dont mind:

- Do you think the additional 8GB of RAM will be necessary and worth spending a bit more?
- On the graphics card, in another thread I've seen the AMD RADEON RX 580 mentioned for a similar budget. Is there much of a difference between the two?

Many thanks

16GB RAM is optimal for gaming, yes, it’s worth spending the xtra to squeeze it in.

Regarding the gpu, what monitor are you pairing it with? What resolution and refresh rate or make and model if you’re unsure? The 580 is actually quite a bit more expensive.

For the monitor, I'm looking at a 1920 x 1080p resolution and 60 hz refresh rate. I guess not worth the extra cost unless I'm getting a better monitor?

The 1650 is ample for that res and refresh. As you say, until you upgrade the monitor there’s no requirement for extra power.

Hi Spydertracks

I am is a similar situation to the original poster and was just looking over the spec you detailed above. I am about a year from retirement and in the interim will need the PC for basic office tasks.

In retirement, with more time on my hands I intend to get fitter and will be using my bike on a smart trainer along with Zwift , a interactive game you may have heard about. Zwift recommends the following spec:

OSWindows 7 64bit or higher,
or macOS 10.10 or higher
PROCESSORQuad Core Intel® i7 or AMD
MEMORY8GB
GRAPHICS2GB Radeon R9 290 series,
or NVIDIA GTX 970
HARD DISK4GB of free space

this being their extreme spec - My question is would your recommendation be close to the Zwift spec on a similar budget £700 or given my eventual application does the spec need tweaking. Unfortunately I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to PCs.

Hiya, that’s quite a hungry piece of software!
Yes, I think for your budget and requirements that spec would be perfect.

the benefit of it is that the core components are actually quite high spec, so looking forwards, you have a really good platform to add to if you need more storage or extra RAM. But as it currently stands, I think it would perform admirably.
