A couple of questions, as the CPU is overclocked will the ram be able to run at 2400 fine as i've read around that there have been problems. Also is there anything new coming out later in the year i should wait for CPU, GPU Cards etc..

I want it to last a while as i'm not sure when i'm going to be able to buy a new or upgrade in the future.

Thanks for the help.

From previous threads I think the ram will be tested and set at 1600mhz. What are you planning to use it for?

Ok so there's no point going higher than 1600 how about 1866? I'm planning to use it for a bit of everything just want it to last as long as possible really that's why i would consider waiting until late this year if there is new technology being released that would be much better. Thanks

It is hard to provide feedback if you don't specify your uses. If it is for gaming I'd consider the cpu at stock clock speed and upgrade the gpu, if you are planning to run more cpu intensive applications or those that benefit from hyperthreading then the i7 is a good choice. Regarding the ram you could give PCS a call for an official response.

I guess mainly for gaming i would like it to keep up in future years as well so looking to get the most from it.

Depending on the games you play you may want to get the best gpu you could afford within your budget such as the HD 7970 or the GTX 670, I think the velociraptor is quite expensive for what it is. A caviar black will be cheaper and still a good choice, for faster boot time you could consider an SSD instead.

Ok thanks keynes is the 7970 much better than the 7950? So the 1Tb caviar black will be the better option? Would the faster 10,000rpm make much difference? Thanks

What is your budget? The HD 7970 is better than the HD 7950, the difference in performance will vary depending on the games you play. I don't think the difference between the caviar black and velociraptor are going to be significant unless you are benchmarking but I am not sure since I do not have a velociraptor. I do have a caviar black and an SSD, when loading games I don't notice a significant difference between those 2.

My budget is 1300 - 1400 i changed out the HDD for the caviar black and added the 7970 and it comes to £1,358.00

Regarding new technology, there is Intel's "Haswell" generation of processors coming. There are rumours of a release date in June but nothing confirmed. If you are not planning to buy until later in the year anyway then you might want to wait for that. It should be a more significant release than Ivy Bridge.
