Another laptop advice thread!

I see this question posted a lot so I apologise, but could someone give me a little advice on which laptop would be best suited for me needs please.

Budget: up to 1800 - but I don't want to spend this for the sake of it, if its unnessecery.

Screen: 17.3

Use : Normal office type stuff although it will be used for Photoshop quite a lot and also 3D rendering. I don't play games really but maybe in the future a little.

It would be great if the chassis or body of the laptop was of a good quality/solid.

I do prefer AMD over Intel, although its not a deal breaker.

Happy to upgrade things like RAM and storage at a later date.

Thanks in advance.

When you want a laptop and are also asking for 17.3 screen - can I just check that you are asking for a laptop for the portability of it or could you consider a desktop as currently you would get a lot more for your money I believe.

What 3d rendering software do you use as will need to check the minimum/recommended spec on this before making any suggestions.

Hi Bhuna,

Firstly, thanks for your post about 17.3-inch laptops—really valuable insights. I ended up configuring a 17.3" VALEON with a Ryzen 9 based on your guide. However, I'm now wondering if it might be a bit much for my needs.

For context, I already have a desktop, and my wife has a laptop, both are showing their age. The plan is to consolidate by replacing them with a single laptop. I'm mostly using Keyshot to work on 3D models that are pre-made for me. It's not hardcore 3D modelling, but it does require having multiple models open and applying textures before rendering.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Can I suggest you post the specs of the one you have done and your actual budget (as I looked at the Valeon and thought it might be a bit too pricey for your original quote of £1800). Whilst you are not gaming, it may be worth budgeting to add the liquid cooling in as well for the Valeon for when you do decide to have a game or two?. I would suggest buying it at the time you buy the laptop rather than think you can add it later, in case they change models etc when you do get around to buying it.

Is there any point in having a RTX 3070 Ti, Ryzen 9 or even an I9 laptop without the separate water cooling accessory? Its not something I want to buy. In all honestly it is going to be very rare if at all I play games, so I wouldn't even want to consider it particularly.

Cheers

These new chassis with the "optional" watercooler really need them, I wouldn't call it optional, without it the system will throttle heavily. It's really designed to be used with the watercooler when at home and without it when travelling, but performance will suffer without it. It's not just the GPU it cools for gaming, but the CPU as well in normal use.

I understand. Is there a model of laptop you recommend, or specific Processors/Graphics cards i can avoid if the separate water cooling isn't something I want to get.

Thanks
