Anti virus software.

The new PC iv'e ordered for my son's birthday is about 10 days away from completion and I realise i've not requested any anti virus software. The PC is primarily for CAD work and gaming but I'm conscious that anti virus software can slow things down, well thats what I've always thought? I'm actually an Apple user and have never used anti virus software so I'm in the dark as to what to get. Any advice would be appreciated.

If you’ve ordered with windows, it comes with windows defender built in which is very capable.
