most people would say AVG although avast is just as good usually its just down to personal preference on whatever suits your style most, MSE and Avira may also be worth trying to see which suits you best

The one thing I tend to see is that free stuff generally doesn't have full capability which is fair enoughy really, is avira like that?

dont get mixed up with avira, they have a trial and then the free version, the free version would be just like your AVG or Avast just different layout, all have pretty standard virus lists and are updated very regularly, every couple of hours last time i used AVG

Ok so a mixture of common sense, Microsoft security essentials? (<--- which I presume come with win7?), malwarebytes and avg, avast, or avira?

MSE doesnt come with windows although i imagine its probably recommended when you first go online as it will say you are unprotected

only one antivirus which are
AVG, MSE, Avast, Avira

along with MBAM, and possibly spybot for occasional scans

I've used Avast free for years. It gets updated regularly, works quietly in the background and has caused me no problems. No conflicts with other progs etc. Seems very efficient - every now and again it has detected and eliminated something nasty. So I'm very happy with it.

OTOH, I've heard many negative reports about Norton and McAfee over the years, in terms of slowing down the system, incompatibility with apps and progs etc. In my experience Avast does everything I want, plus I use Windows Defender which also seem to do what it should, quietly and efficientl.

here's my tu-pence

In past I have used,
1.On dad's pc we had McAfee...hhmmm don't bother
2.avast, on my pc and missus netbook, not bad actually
3. avg free on dad, not bad but wants you to pay for alot of features on there. plus you have to us malwearbytes
4.MSe not a fan of it, missed a load of tracking cookies that kept slowing down my browsers.
5. Now I use Norton 2011 on my pc, dads and missus super fast netbook. Honestly its ace, only paid 20quid for it. Its not like the older versions heavy on the pc or anything, its quite light and does everything I need it to do, a very good all in one software. from the research I did norton is best if you wanna PAY

Just to note, If your bank says use rapport.....don't nasty piece of software, horrible, google it. lol
