Anybody else having the Fifa14 Current Gen/Next Gen debate with themselves?

As Fifa fans will know, Fifa 14 releases this week for the current gen consoles, just 2 months before the planned release of the Xbox One which contains a free Fifa 14 download with every Day One Preorder...

I'm in a bit of a dilemma, realistically I hadn't planned on pre-ordering an Xbox One as my PC will only be a year old and I have things like GTA to keep me entertained on my 360. However, I do have a habit of being sucked into the hype of things, for example, I had no intention or interest at all in buying GTA5 until about 5 hours before the midnight launch.

Also, the only slight interest I have with the new Xbox is Fifa and Forza. And as I can get Fifa for my 360 I'm struggling to see a lot of logic in forking out £400+. I've heard the Fifa version for the Xbone is built on a completely different engine but still not sure how different that will actually make it...

Just wondered if anybody else was in a similar situation? Are you pre-ordering a next-gen console or are you waiting? Are there any games coming out for both current and next-gen that you're not sure you can wait 2 months for? And most importantly, WHAT DO I DO ABOUT FIFA? :( I missed out on Fifa 13 as I didn't feel it was worth the upgrade so I've spent 2 long years (or 6-7 game years) getting Preston North End into the Premier League on Fifa 12. I'm definitely due an upgrade and the new one has got brilliant reviews. Just wish they didn't release it on both generations...

But Keynes, Fifa is a console game :( Plus they're not releasing the new engine for the PC which kind of makes it a console exclusive in my eyes... Difficult to play 4 player crowded around my monitor as well! ;D

I wasn't at all interested in Fifa until release day, I was stuck in bored so went out and got it for the PS3.
Was getting quite into ultimate team again and then remembered what ruins it for me every year, EA server dies, I lose my DNF modifier for something which I have no control over takes me ages to get it back up to normal. it wouldn't even be so bad if it was because my internet died or something :( grrr

Haha I caved and got it on the 360 alex, decided it's probably not worthwhile getting the Xbone when it comes out! I'm enjoying it but haven't got sucked into Ultimate team yet as it ruins my wallet :( Been playing career mode on legendary with Man U... Let's just say I may be in for a relegation battle and I can relate to why Moyes has had such a poor start to the season xD

I purchased the PC version because i won't be picking up a PS4 or XBONE at launch, but i have to say from what i've seen the console version for next gen looks better running off the new engine. I genuinely am confused/annoyed at why the PC gets the dated engine. Considering that even a moderately powerful PC is more capable than next gen. Single player for me has improved, it's more difficult and competitive. Ultimate team has gone well off the boil. It kind of feels like you HAVE to spend cash to play even a remotely decent team, plus the whole buying contracts thing is pants. They constantly run out and you never have enough coins to buy half decent players unless you spend REAL money, so i don't bother with that and just play standard online matches using proper teams.

If you are picking up a next gen console, if you buy CoD, BF or FIFA from GAME, as long as you keep your proof of purchase, then they will guarantee you £40 trade in value, so you only have to pay about £10 for the next gen version.
EDIT: it has to be the same franchise so FIFA to FIFA.

This will be the first generation i dont get a console. IMO they are now too similar, so i might as well be gaming on my pc. I mean just look at the games that are slated for the consoles - basically PC games (especially the f2p games), so instead of dropping £400+ on console + games i decided to upgrade my pc and save the money for a graphics card.
I got a 360 controller for the pc, so i can still play on my gamepad.

The tv gets hogged by my son during the day and evening so that suits me fine. In fact my PS3 just conked out on me and i traded in all my ps3 games - put them towards the GTX 770 or R9 280X fund (still undecided LOL).

Although I agree with you Dek and as much as I try to tell my mates that they're missing out by not having decent PC's (they're shocked at how amazing GTA V graphics are.... If you've played it you'll know how crazy that is), I still think there's a certain nostalgia to console gaming that you can't recreate on a PC. Not for FPS's, RTS's or MMO's of course, but sports games, platform games (i.e. rayman) and racing games do play really well on a console. I am starting to find less reasons to continue buying console games but I can't deny that even though my 360 is 6 years old I can still have a blast on it. Probably mainly for the social factor more than graphics, etc though.

Yep i get where your coming from. Its like the console has instant accessability - especially for non techy types that just want to play games. I remember in my younger days me and a bunch of pals gathered round a SNES playing Super Bomberman and Street fighter 2 winner stays on.

I wonder if the steambox (compact pc in all but name) is looking to give that social tv&sofa gaming feel.

But alas, friends have all moved away, families, responsibilities and all that = pc gaming more convenient and suitable for my current needs :)

So are all your pals getting the xbox one? If so that would be interesting as the masses are jumping ship and opting for a PS4 this gen.

Most my mates can't afford them now to be honest, a lot of them are mid-20's with jobs in Subway or Asda and they spend most their money on booze. I think they're planning on waiting till they drop in price again.

They sometimes get sucked into the hype though so I don't know for certain, they all said they weren't getting GTA and then whadda y'know? They all had it on release day...

I think they will still go for the Xbox though, I think the launch games look a lot more impressive and I've never really liked the playstation format or the controller for that matter.

Are xbox still charging for live on the x1? For me that would be the final nail in the coffin.
I always prefered Xbox, until I started PC gaming, then I let my Live run out, so for me PS3 is the most logical console to buy games (like Fifa) for.

Yes they are still charging but your X360 account carries over with any remaining subscription. I believe PS Network will also be charging from now on as well. (I would prefer to pay for decent Xbox servers than suffer the previous PS problems people have had, can get live for £30 for 12 months nowadays, £2.50 is diddly-squat ;))

ALRIGHT MONEY BAGS.

I reckon that the PSN will be good this time. I wouldn't pay for either anymore, seeing as you are already paying an OTT premium on each console game.

Also, have you seen the new console controllers? Ugly, and that's coming from somebody who has a RAT mouse...

Haha calm down LUMBER BOY, i forgot they paid you in sawdust. Apparently the xbox controller is really good to use, the triggers have force feedback now. At least they're not as ugly as the Steam controller...
