Hey, really tempted to get this card, but i've heard kind of mixed reviews about it. If anyone has it and can tell me good stuff about it i may have to get it.

I don't own it but also based on what I've read I'd say steer clear of it. It doesn't seem to offer anything meaningful in terms of performance to justify the considerable price tag.

Before I'd shell out any hard earned cash I would think about how much your service provider is ripping you off with their "advertised bandwidth" vs. what you actually receive, in terms of connection speed.
Before I even thought about that i would take a long hard look at their advertising budget:

You have to laugh at this attempt at advertising a promising product.
In all seriousness I would personally consider changing providers or increasing connection speed before trying this. Of course it is down to how much you value small advantages in playing online, but as to whether this is a "value for money" option; I have my doubts. It is a great concept; that could, and should work, but there are too many other potential conflicting limitations to its effectiveness imo. I.e do you do background downloading while gaming?....dont. Do you run connected activities in the background that might affect ping and therefore fps?...dont. Just examples....and that is just the internet side of things; without other hardware limitations.

If you are really sure a bottleneck to performance is your connection speed or your integrated ethernet port/wireless adapter/router/ go down the route of checking these before even thinking about investing. If you do have some money spare and fancy giving it a go, if you are primarily a gamer; post up your opinions after installing! Think we would all be interested in some non-reviewer opinions! :)

Surely a more effective use of your money (rather than buy the card) would be to upgrade your internet package though as im writing this im realizing that that would end up costing alot more in a little time oh well
ill shut up now

Yeah but you do get actual gains with that instead of the Bigfoot card.

We were Tiscali AGES ago, so glad we left them, absolute load of rubbish, been around the providers a bit and stuck with AOL for quite a while but then they started messing us around last year so we've now switch to SKY along with the phone and TV and have to say, its actually pretty good value for money and they best broadband I've had to date! Much quicker than anyone else has been able to provide and customer services seem pretty switched on too :) Oh and it's unlimited :) Thats always a necessity when I'm shopping around for broadband deals as my brother and I eat up bandwidth like mad lol

The bigfoot killer card is a waste of money.

As I have mentioned before there are plenty of registry edits or tweaks you can do to decrease your ping without buying the card.

On the othe rnote with providers, I have found Be internet to be very very good, offering doubel the speed any other provider has been able to supply me so far, not a bad price either, and can tweak your broadband profile to get extra speed out of it aswell.
Highly recommended, and if anyone is interested PM me and i can recommend you and you get a free month :)

Well the reason i was wondering was because until fibre optic lines are laid in our area around july i have to stick with a crappy 3 meg line that we currently have so, i was just wondering if that would get the most out of it.

Well, I have it despite the naysayers, I think it's main advantage is I have no problems downloading while gaming, although I do download to a 2nd drive so maybe that's why. Also you can easily set the tcp no delay and ack fequency without going into the registry yourself. It's main gains seem to be found in World of Warcraft although even those are hardly noticeable, still it feels more consistent. Dont think it will make much difference to your 3meg line but perhaps worth it ready for fibre optic. If you're a hardcore gamer with money to spare once you've maxed out all other areas first then I use the theory: I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. But to be clear it's not gonna blow you away with any performance gains if you can spot any at all.

Summed up nicely I think, I have lots of things in my PC that I don't need, just add to the experience.

Still quite a specialist piece of kit though, not needed by your average home user.

A handy little program and details to make the mentioned tweaks to tcp delay and fequency to reduce gaming lag can be found here: http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info13581-LeatrixLatencyFix.html It's got great reviews from the WoW community and has been checked to make sure there are no keyloggers etc, you can get some sweet gains by using this rather than trying to do it manually, I havent used this version myself as I can do the same thing via the Killer interface but these changes themselves give the biggest lag/ping reductions that you WILL notice! (well, in WoW at least)
