Assuming that this system is ok for gaming. Just debating on the case.

This is what I have gone for so far (my original limit was £500 but now sneaked into the £700's):

Case COOLERMASTER ELITE 311 BLUE CASE
Processor (CPU) AMD FX-8350 Eight Core CPU (4.00GHz/8MB CACHE/AM3+)
Motherboard ASUS® SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 (DDR3, USB3.0, 6Gb/s, CrossFireX/Sli)
Memory (RAM) 16GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz, X.M.P (2 x 8GB KIT)
Graphics Card NONE, I ALREADY HAVE A GRAPHICS CARD
1st Hard Disk 120GB KINGSTON HYPERX 3K SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s (upto 555MB/sR | 510MB/sW)
1st DVD/BLU-RAY Drive 24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM
Memory Card Reader NONE
Power Supply CORSAIR 550W VS SERIES™ VS-550 POWER SUPPLY
Processor Cooling Corsair H60 Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler
Extra Case Fans 1 x 12CM Black Case Fan (configured to extract from rear/roof)
Sound Card ONBOARD 8 CHANNEL (7.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Wireless/Wired Networking 10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORT - AS STANDARD ON ALL PCs
Wireless Router/HomePlugs NONE
USB Options MIN. 2 x USB 3.0 & 4 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL + MIN. 2 FRONT PORTS

I have my 2TB WD Sata 3 drive as my main to install, as well as a dated GTX 550Ti (I will upgrade this to a GTX 660 when I have the funds). Also my own Windows 7 licence.

I was after the Corsair Air 540 gaming case but can't commit to it right now so went for the Coolermaster Elite 311 to use until I can afford it.

Any advice on my spec or whether I should change the case (can't spend much more)?

This is to replace a Athlon 64 X2 6000+ with a Asus M2SN SLi Deluxe mobo so any newer build will improve what I already own.

Cheers

It seems a bit unbalanced, I would drop the SSD, drop the h60 cpu cooler, get the FX-6300 and a better case. Changing cases is going to be a hassle.

Thanks for the quick reply keynes.

I have already ordered the original build but it has not been processed yet so will try to change it if possible.

I had gone for an SSD for my OS and to run main programs from as had heard that solid state is the biggest performance boost to a system in general. As I usually keep a system as it is for 5+ years (I always seem to acheive this, until the CPU starts to give up) I had gone for the 8 core to increase my systems longevity believing it would be a better choice, and the hydro cooling as to maximize OC potential of the chip (though the quality of the case will also impact my choices).

Thanks for your help again, will have to have a rethink.

For gaming no and if it mean compromising in other components like the case I don't think it is a good idea.

Squeezing money this way and that I have revised it to the above:

AMD Stock cooler (removed H60)
FX6350
Corsair 230T
Reduced to 8GB of the RAM
Added a GTX 660 as the card should be a massive jump from the GTX 550Ti and I can't afford to spend £300 on a card.

So removing the hydro and ram (don't need 16GB straight away) gives me alot more choice with the case. Going by this is a 8 core processor needed or is the FX6300/6350 more value in the long run (I haven't built a computer since 2008 and haven't kept up enough)?

Sorry to keep changing my mind. :)

you could drop to 4gb RAM and push for a better gpu.

Repeat of the thanks again. Still playing around.

So with just 4gb ram I can bump up the card to a Nvidia GTX 760 or a AMD R9 270X.
