It doesn't matter how old I get. Waiting for my Desktop to arrive, makes me feel like a kid on xmas eve.
Currently having an exasperating time with my 7 year old desktop. A Q9550 with old high volt ddr3 ram, some of the first on the market. Always been an early adopter I guess. Trying to use Maya and Unity! I do try, i really do. Waiting 5 minute for my PC to boot up, watching it hang when I load more than a web browser up. Running a GTX 760 to get some extra life out of my baby but seeing it never get above 50% utilisation. Guess the CPU is on it's last legs, it no longer remains stable when over-clocked. So tired of getting random blue screens if I do too much stressful work for too long. Or seeing my RAM bug out on me, Chrome crash anyone? Crash Crash Crash Crash Crash...
So a new PC it is! Patience isn't limitless. Luckily I had a 760 so I didn't need to buy a GPU. I'll get a 970 when I see a none reference version I like. So just like last time I thought I'd adopt new Tech early and future proof myself some what. While at the same time building for my workload. X99 it is! Here is what I've picked up

I was able to save some pennies in some amusing ways. No DVD drive as an example. Who uses DVD drives still? I've not used mine in 2 years. When I format the OS I use a USB stick. Everything is digital now. I saved some money on the GPU of course since I have an ASUS 760. I didn't need the peripherals. I'm over encumbered with mechanical keyboards and random mice. I have been debating with myself on sound cards as of late though. I'm not sure they're really all they're cracked up to be. I guess some more research is needed. I got 16 GIG of ram for the minute to see how well that works. Since it's the easiest thing to upgrade.
Right now I'm excited to see how much snappier the new Desktop will be to this one. Any of you go from an old old PC to a brand new one? I got myself a nice large SSD on the new one since everyone keeps raving about how they breathe new life into systems, and make everything snappy. Hopefully it's golden advice and pays off.
