Yes, probably because it was your first post. I'd suggest ditching the SSD and upgrading the gpu and CPU cooler, an SSD is not essential and you can always add one later on.

I shall think it over. i was very much looking forward to having an SSD but I shall mull it over.
If you can afford an SSD go for it but I think it means you need to compromise on the gpu I would suggest getting the best gpu you can afford f it is for gaming. It also depends on the type of games you wish to play, for a £1000 budget I would expect the rig to play any game at ultra settings.

Would the 660 run into any trouble with any game out at the moment?

Yeah I see what you're saying though, future proofing and all that.

The 660 would still be fine as far as Im aware.I think even the 560 would still cut it. Its only going to be games like Crysis , Battlefield , Far cry etc thatd need tuning down a notch. But then Ive not had a desktop for a while now. My last was twin 6950s from ATI. I think next year things will begin to change. But you should be good for a couple of years with that gpu.

It should be fine for most games but it also depends at what video setting you expect to play. For the link below it seems that the gtx 660 will struggle to reach 30fps at ultra settings.

From Steaky's post it shows that the gtx 660 will cope with the game at ultra settings.

Yeah I see what you're saying. I have to say (and I expect to be lambasted for this) I generally leave the FPS for the console. I mainly play strategy games (Sins of a solar empire etc) on the PC though this is because I've never had a high end PC before. I'd certainly play more shooters on PC if I had the spec though.

Kif, we have a conundrum. search them for scissors.....and bring me a rock.

If you go for Keynes's suggestion, you will pretty much have my exact build other than the case. Definitely upgrade the cpu cooler to the triple copper pipe and between the SSD and the GPU I'd be going for the GPU every day. If you don't want to ditch it completely, is there a chance you could go for a smaller one and maybe up the GPU to the 660Ti? I personally haven't missed having an SSD though, PC still boots pretty rapid and general tasks are as quick as I could hope for. I'm certainly never sat around waiting for things to load...

The 670 is an amazing card. It's handled everything I've thrown at it so far on max.

I can upgrade the cpu cooler no problem. To be entirely honest I could probably afford to just upgrade the card, keep the SSD and change the 3tb to a 2tb caviar black.....but it's a lot of the monies :(

Is the Caviar black going to be noticably (A: better than the 3tb I have currently, B: slower than having an SSD)?

Ok quick update guys. I did the recommended upgrades, but without any downgrades. My wallet won't like me for it but screw my wallet, that thing's got it in for me.

So i upgraded the graphics card to the 2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 670 - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready and the CPU cooler to Super Quiet 22dBA Triple Copper Heatpipe Intel CPU Cooler.

Is all good in the hood now?

hmm but doesn't far cry 3 have a problem with its anti aliasing? FRANKIEonPCin1080p posted a video talking about it with his 690, my friend has a 660 superclocked and it can run bf3 ultra at 80-90fps, obviously far cry 3 its open world so your gpu will struggle a bit more but still :/

I don't think even single gtx 680 without any overclocked can reach +60 fps on BF3 in ultra

I was suggesting a better gpu than the gtx 660 because I though it would be a better upgrade than keeping the SSD if it is a gaming rig.
