Benchmarking new laptop

Hi all

Thanks to the help of the PCS community I've recently bought and received my Proteus II laptop.

I wanted to write a review soon but thought I'd like to test it through games etc. to see how it performs before writing this.

So another question from me:

What is the best way to put my new laptop through its paces and monitor how well it can perform/what temperature it reaches?

Are there any programs you would suggest?

Many thanks for the help as always

For temps, piriform's speccy (free) or CPUID's HWMonitor (also free), for fps Fraps or in game counter

For benchmarks, furmark for graphics stress, 3dMark, Unigine

For disks, HDTune, CrystalDiskMark

Thanks for help!

No worries.

BTW, furmark is a true stress test for the graphics card. It's to identify if there's an issue with the card and maxxes it to the extreme. Just run it once for 15 minutes to double check the status, then don't run it again until you need to as it can damage the card.

Okay good to know, thanks!

Hi all

I had a short go at checking temps, fps, etc. last night and will have another at a later time and include this in my review.

One thing I did encounter, was when using Fraps (free version) to capture video is that the image appears very fuzzy and pixelated.

I wondered if this was an issue with my display, some settings that need tweaking or a product of using the free version of Fraps?

Any help appreciated, thanks!

Hey, I am thinking of buying this laptop but the main thing holding me back is the question over the quality of the screen. Could you tell me how you are finding the screen?

Thanks

Hi, sorry for my slow reply.

The screen quality is great so far in everything I've used it for. Can suffer a bit if there is a lot of sun on the screen or glare around but I'm not in the habit of playing/watching things under these sorts of conditions so haven't had any trouble so far!

Very happy with my purchase so far and a full review will be posted soon

The display model is B156HTN03.6 if you want to take a look at actual reviews for the display. It is used by another popular manufacturer and as far as I am aware doesn't suffer from any problems. I have been to testing a couple of times to have look at them because I wanted to purchase one for a short while until I realised I didn't actually need a laptop for anything other than Twitch and youtube in the bath.
