BF3 Xbox controller problem

Hello

I have a wireless xbox controller for pc which I would like to use when in jets and helicopters in BF3.

The controller works fine whe on foot but id rather use keyboard and mouse for that. The problem is throttle up and down. Ive tried remapping the keys but I can't get them to work on the joysticks.

When I used my actual joystick (not xbox controller) id get axis 0 + or - depending on if its going up or down, but on the xbox controller its missing the + or -.

Has anyone else had this problem? any tips or advice greatly appreciated.

use the keyboard and mouse the xbox controller will only gimp you, its too slow and inacurate and you will find yourself getting owned by ppl who use a keyboard and mouse. just find yourself a quiet server and practice

Yeah takes lot's of practice but you will do better with mouse and keyboard.

I appreciate you're trying to help guys but im just looking for advice on getting the control to work in jets and heli's, not a war on keyboard/mouse vs controllers.

actually keyboard mouse will only own a controller on foot and tanks etc, helis and jets make next to no difference using a controller, infact using a joystick creates a lot smoother flight.

Anyway back to your problem, have you just tried pushing the stick the other way? Maybe it actually records up as positive etc?

I havn't tried that but down on the stick does lower the heli. It seems to be a problem of the game not knowing the difference between up and down on the same stick. Seems odd as walking forward/backwards works as expected.

I had a little more of a test last night. When I press up throttle on the stick the heli doesn't go up, but when i release it back to neutral it gets a very slight lift for a second, enough to get it to around 10 feet or so.

All very strange.

Its not a solution to the current problem, but cant you just use the default 360 controls for the heli, which i believe are the triggers for going up and down; then if that works try to remap the xbox controls again for the helicopter to the ones you want. I have always found the default xbox 360 controls ok, but since they are already set to analogue buttons in the triggers; which is essentially what the sticks are, it shouldnt have a problem remapping to them; never tried myself. :) Hope this works for you.

Every server I join says waiting for 7 players. Am I just being unlucky? I didnt have this problem the other night. Is there a way to host games locally?

Got one in the end. Only had time to test the Jet but that is working fine on default controls. I don't know why it makes a difference but I wont complain!

Default controls are working fine on the heli but throttle up won't work with the stick. No idea, Ill just have to learn to use triggers to throttle up and down.

Thanks for your help on here.

There is 1 last thing you can try that someone used for sorting their joystick settings and that was to clear all the settings for the jets and choppers and then try binding the controls back to whatever buttons you need on your 360 pad.
