Hi,

Can anyone advise me as to how I can enter the BIOS of the ASUS Z390-F please?

I am trying to Boot up from a USB drive but cannot get into the motherboard to request this. I've turned off the Fast Restart Option within Power & Sleep options and restarted my PC several times, pressing various keys, ie Esc, Del, F2, F4, F8, F10 but the system will not enter BIOS.

I have also tried the entry through UEFI Firmware settings but to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Is this a PCSpecialist system? Can you post your full specs from the order page?

Settings > Update and Security > Recovery > Advanced Start up >

As per the ASUS video regarding entry to the BIOS. None of the options (after Advance Set Up) work no matter which one is chosen - screen goes black. EOS

Hmmm... I wonder if for some reason UEFI has been disabled in the BIOS.

When you're pressing the keys to enter BIOS on startup, are you mashing them or only pressing them a couple of times? You have to repetitively mash them as quickly as possible. Sorry to ask!

Mashing! But if you don't know which key to press in the first place then you're just peeing into the wind! And according to ASUS, you don't press keys anymore but access through Advance Set Up.

With the current problems that I have on my PC - all stemming from a failure with MS Flight Sim 2020 BTW, I have felt the need to re-load Windows 10, which I have done several times in the last few days - both keeping my files and going for the full monty, overwriting everything - but every restart to me seems to be corrupt in some way and doesn't allow me to progress to re-installing MS FS2020.

It's late and I've spent many hours again today trying to resolve this but just as a throw away statement - why, when one does a complete reinstallation back to brand spanking new, does a desktop background .jpg that was downloaded from the Internet, open up as your desktop background again when Windows finally reloads?? Where is that stored exactly and how does it survive being overwritten?

I have a catalogue of questions to ask and, as stated earlier, am awaiting a response from PCS. I thought I was asking a fairly innocuous question when I asked this Forum about entry to to BIOS. Through the MicroSoft Windows creator tool, I have a USB stick with Windows 10 Home on it and which I was hoping to install. Easier said than done:(

So the only way to do a proper reinstall is through a clean install. It sounds like you're doing a refresh from settings which will just leave any residual issues from the current image you have. The best method is a clean install, but that sounds like what you're trying to achieve now by booting from a USB.

Windows has an option to backup settings like that to onedrive in Settings / accounts / sync your settings. Desktop background is one of those.

The keys you need for an Asus board are F2 or Del.

I'd fully turn off the PC, then start mashing F2 and Del as you turn it on, see if that helps.

The other thing is if you're using a wireless keyboard, it may well not be supported outside of windows. Try a cabled keyboard if this is the case.

Thanks for your response.
As stated earlier I have performed both types of reinstall but have not moved on with either. I really would like to achieve booting up from this newly created USB drive and then be able to take stock once more.
As a locked-down senior I am really struggling with this. I bought this PC back in June in anticipation of playing the new MS flight simulator - both through lock-down and the winter months - and, although I struggled to get up and running after MSFS was launched - but so did thousands of other people - I have enjoyed many hours with it since.
Now that it has failed, I feel compelled to putting things right again and thank God that I have many years of computer experience - although sadly, that is leaving me behind these days!
As I said, I have a catalogue of questions to ask and am waiting for PCS to respond to may e-mail. Under the present circumstances I will not badger them, which is why I chose to ask a question here tonight. If the present situation was different then I'd be prepared to drive to Wakefield with my PC and let them take a good look at things :)

I will try the points you mention tomorrow - erm, later today!
Thanks and Goodnight.
