Bioshock being a real pain on Steam.

Hey guys, stumbled upon a minefield when installing Bioshock. Theres a whole host of common bugs threads on Steam forums and elsewhere with a million problems and solutions: thought I'd post and see if anybody else pre ordered the new game and was also running into trouble.

To preface this, all of my graphics/audio drivers are up to date, which rules out a significant portion of the "fixes". Simply put as soon as i run the game i get a straight windows (7) message saying the game has crashed. On my initial setup i was given a dx10 update box, clicking this may have doomed me, and is perhaps the reason it wont run. Ive validated my steam files, and reinstalled afresh twice. I tried playing the game in no sound mode as advised and still no luck which makes me think its a graphics problem. Question is - anybody else have this? Is there a way to run the game off of dx9?

Cheers

I had a similar problem with Two Worlds - unfortunately I'm offshore at the moment and cant actually find the fix which worked for me. It was something to do with the game requiring some older dx files that simply were no longer included with the newer editions of dx.

EDIT: here was the fix for two worlds. http://steamcommunity.com/app/1930/discussions/0/828923952147418710/

Might not work but its worth a try. It's basically saying to install older dx runtimes which are no longer included. The 'fix' isn't specific to two worlds and the problem sounds similar. Might just work! (The rar file is clean, but obviously check yourself!)

Fingers crossed!

Cheers Steaky, hope your return to dry land( even if it is Aberdeen) is safe and quick. I gave the Physx fix a run through before class today, but still had the game crash upon startup. I found a steam fix, which isn't perfect but at least gets the game to run: just played with the properties and got the game to run with dx9, at least it doesn't crash, so if anybody else runs into this in the next fortnight then there you go, relatively simple.
