Is there anyways to play blu ray movies on my laptop. I have tried using VLC to no avail, and I cant believe it would be shipped without a way to play them.

there is a blue ray player in your laptop(sorry just making sure) you should have a driver disk with the pc the one for your blue ray drive should have programs on it to play blue rays.

haha yeah I have checked its a blu ray player. I can access the disk I just have no software that can play it. On the site it says plus a cyberlink suite. From rummaging around the box I cant find anything that resembles that. TBH I hadnt touched the driver disc because my laptop worked perfectly from the start. I have just checked on that and its not on there either.

I received the cyberlink powerdv, you may want to contact PCS if you have not received any software.

The blu-ray player will almost certainly be locked after 5 changes.Even if the drive is region free, which I doubt, Cyberlink PowerDVD will only allow you to change the region code setting up to five times, and then it will be locked on the region you have listed on your fifth and last change. At that point you will only be allowed to watch DVD titles from that region.

What about Blu-rays - are they region coded - and therefore is the Optiarc drive / WinDVD software coded to the Blu ray region also?

I have the opposite problem to this, my laptop came with nero 12, I installed it and put in a blu ray disk and the disk just spins in the tray, nothing happens, the disk tray just appears empty in the 'My PC' / 'My Computer' tab of the file explorer :S

Could be a damaged media disk or just needing cleaned.
If you have the same problem with any disk try deleting the UpperFilters\LowerFilters registry entries.
Start Registry Editor, type regedit in the search, and then click the regedit icon in the search results. Registry Editor starts.
1. In Registry Editor, expand Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
2. Expand SYSTEM
3. Expand ControlSet001
4. Expand Control
5. Expand Class
6. Search for the key {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and left click on it, bringing the values up on the right
In the right hand pane (topic area), you may have Upperfilters, Lowerfilters or both, click UpperFilters if you have it, and delete it, if you have LowerFilters as well, delete this also. If you only have one of the two, just delete that one.
Close Registry Editor and restart windows.
