As someone who keeps an eye on indie games, one of my most anticipated indie games for the year is out in just over a month. Published by Humble Games (who haven't really put a foot wrong yet), #BLUD is a fun Action Adventure game and I just love the cartoony animations which definitely remind me of some of the Cartoon Network shows I watched as a kid.

This is one to watch!

I'm more familiar with Cartoon Network than Nickelodeon - I guess CN sold on broadcasting rights to BBC or whoever more often or something like that. I feel you can't go wrong with hand-drawn animation in games though!
That's what I loved so much about the Borderlands series was the cartoony animation style. I think it adds loads of depth to a game.
I rarely want a game to feel real, the more fantasy based it is, the better IMHO

Roboquest is game that came out last year and has a similar art style to Borderlands. Might be worth a look.

Having put a few hours into the game last night, it has turned out exactly how I thought it would.

The art style is awesome and is perhaps the main selling point of the game.

The gameplay is not particularly innovative and doesn't really attempt anything new - it's very reminiscent of the earlier top-down Zelda games (Link's Awakening, A Link To the Past, Oracle of Ages and Seasons, etc). The combat is pretty much attack and dodge roll, although I believe there's an extra move or two unlocked later in the game, but combat is serviceable and does what you'd expect. I did notice that you are stunned but don't go invulnerable for a few seconds when you take damage like in a lot of games, so if you find yourself cornered, you may not be able to escape and end up stunlocked/trapped until you die. There's a lot of older games like that, so it's a quirk that I'd forgotten existed, but not the end of the world once you're aware of it.

The story is high school girl/vampire hunter dealing with both sides of life, been there done that with Buffy, but as a game inspired by 90s throwbacks, that suits me fine.

I thought the game would be a touch more expensive, but for 20 quid, no complaints at all from me!
