Bought me a Pc, are some of the components overkill or the opposite...

Hi Guys,

This is the first time i have invested in a pc worth over a grand, and a bit of a headache for a noob like me getting the right components for the job. I will be video/photo editing quite a bit (hobby) and playing a wide range of games, small games(horror/survival/messing-about-games) to possibly newer games possibly battlefield 4, not sure...

I was struggling to decide between the motherboards from the Z87-a, asus saber tooth, decided to go with the V1 hero not sure if i made the right choice, and i went for the H60 cpu cooler; when video rendering my last cpu was running at max so wanted appropriate cooling. And the hyper beast ram is likely unnecessary but went for aesthetics..

So my question is, based on above what would you upgrade or downgrade..appreciate your comments.

i have ordered above but is still in processing so i could change a few things.

I would get the 1600mhz memory, z87-a and the triple copper heatpipe cpu cooler. Any motherboard in the configurator offers similar performance for gaming and the h60 is unnecessary if you are not overclocking your cpu. The triple copper is better than the standard intel cpu cooler. A better SSD and a caviar black as the secondary drive.

Thank you for that, i have took your advice ... exactly what i needed! .. i had to change the psu to 650, although i am not sure about the VS series; not a lot of info out there about it, the enthusiats series does not exactly get great reviews so i guess il stick with the cheap and hopefully cheerful VS

Item 1 Change to 8GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz, X.M.P (2 x 4GB KIT) from 8GB KINGSTON HYPERX BEAST DUAL-DDR3 2400MHz X.M.P (2 x 4GB KIT)
Item 2 Change to 120GB INTEL® 530 SERIES SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s (upto 550MB/sR | 520MB/sW) from 120GB KINGSTON V300 SSD, SATA 6 Gb (450MB/R, 450MB/W)
Item 3 Change to 1TB WD CAVIAR BLACK WD1002FAEX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64MB CACHE (7200rpm) from 1TB 3.5" SATA-III 6GB/s HDD 7200RPM 32MB CACHE
Item 4 Change to CORSAIR 650W VS SERIES™ VS-650 POWER SUPPLY from CORSAIR 550W VS SERIES™ VS-550 POWER SUPPLY
Item 5 Change to Super Quiet 22dBA Triple Copper Heatpipe Intel CPU Cooler from Corsair H60 Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler

after thinking about it and checking reviews i think il stick with the V1 hero though...

it is fine, it is a good board but if you are not overclocking or use any of its additional features I would rather spend the money on other things like the gpu.

i dont want to start spending any more money, but i could upgrade the gpu to the gtx770, and get the z87-a(cost me £7quid extra).... would that be a better set up...would it make much difference?

For gaming it will be a better set up and it would make a significant difference.

Thanks for the advice, i have upgraded the gtx to the gtx770 now the motherboard, the vi hero, has only one hdmi input socket and has no dvi/vga sockets, how would you connect dual screens? would a hdmi splitter work? .... the z87-a does have all standard screen connections... if this board does not support dual screens i will be downgrading, can you advise?...

You wont be connecting monitors to the onboard graphics, they will connect to the graphics card,
I believe the GTX 770 has 2 DVI, 1 HDMI and 1 DP ports.
