Brand new Optimus V 15.6 - Crashing with blue screen

Hi all,

I received my Optimus V 15.6 on Monday (which was all built and tested in 2 days - thank you fast track service!) but due to being ill/at work haven't really had a chance to use/play with it.

However, the three times I have tried to load WoW or CoD MW2, or even to watch bbc Iplayer - I get a blue screen and a weird noise which then crashes my shiny new laptop.

I have browsed (when it's let me) around for some answers but as my name suggests I am completely out of my depth when it comes to computers and can't make heads of tails of it.

The laptop also has issues when logging off (Stays on this screen for a good 30 minutes sometimes) and just generally comes up with random error messages saying "XYZ has stopped working"

I was told to downlaod new Nvidia drivers, so did from the geforce website - which has had no effect. I have since uninstalled them all.

As i have only had the laptop 3 days and used it for a total of 3 hours, this is obviously extremely frustrating.

I will try and call technical support tomorrow in my lunch break but if I can't find a spare minute it'll have to be Saturday..

I was just wondering if there are any potentially easy fixes that I'm missing?


I took some pics on my iPhone (didn't know if print-screen would save the image upon restart of the crash) which could potentially have been of some use - but the bluetooth is also faulty and crashes every time I start it up.

That module is the NVIDIA driver and the stop code indicates a video driver error. Boozad of this parish has written an excellent "how to" for performing a completely clean install of the video driver...

Download the latest NVIDIA driver to your desktop.

Next, go to Windows update and set it to 'check for updates but let me decide what to install, that will keep windows from automatically installing it's video driver.

Next go to C:/Nvidia, open the folder and you should see a folder named Display driver. Inside that folder you should see a folder for every driver you have ever installed. They will be names 320.49 and such. Delete every one of those folders, but do not delete the display driver folder, just the ones inside.

Next go to control panel > uninstall programs. Uninstall all of the Nvidia display programs, but this is important, uninstall the display driver last. Uninstall the Nvidia update, Phys X, 3D drivers (few people use them), NvidiaHDMI, and the Nvidia update (it does not work anyway). Last uninstall the display driver. You will be told to reboot, do so.

When you log back on, windows will install a display adaptor, that is OK. Open your driver that you have downloaded from Nvidia, agree to terms, do not select express install, select custom install. Make sure the 'clean install' check box is selected and uncheck everything except the display driver and PhysX, then install. You will have to reboot after that.

That will be the cleanest install you can get, and you will not have the HDMI driver to conflict with the Realtek drivers, but should have all the drivers you need. You can then set windows update back to whatever you like.

See whether that works for you. If you still have problems I'd give PCS a call.

I bought Optimus V last year with 15.6" 95% Gamut display and had lots of problem with the fan and display, the latter bad enough that I had to abandon the laptop (spent £1056). PC specialist kept on denying the problem. Allegedly replaced the screen (I wouldn't know) because it did not make any difference as far as display was concerned.

Not exactly the same problem as yours but just a feedback on Optimus V. They themselves admit that there was some problem with the Clevo chasis.

Wouldn't go anywhere close to PCS again.
