For the hdd, yes it is but it is easier to send the hdd to them and they will install it, that way they cantest the system. For the gpu, the 555m will play skyrim on high settings, the 540 on low settings. What is your budget though? You may want to consider an upgrade to a quad core i7 if you can afford it.

My budget is say £650 tops though i would be happier only spending £600

i was initially looking at this
[Edit by Rakk: no competitor links please]
however i feel the custom job is better quality machine for a cheaper price.

regarding the Hdd it has its own copy of windows 7 hence why i don't want to purchase 7 again. i am currently useing it to run my old slightly dead laptop atm and would prefer to not have to part with it.

what do you think?

This setup is a lot better. For a start, pcs use quality parts, better quality than acer's. The gpu on the optimus is a lot better than that on the acer also, the warranty and customer support you get here is unbeatable. Finally, don't forget to minus the £30 from your total (I think that is the price of the hdd).

Hmm that's odd I looked up the spec last night and it was there, I cant seem to find it either now. however the Intel® Core™i5-2450M 2.5Ghz has appeared now for more or less the same price.

i had forgotten to minus the price of the Hdd. Good shout!

can i ask what is your opinion of typing on the keyboards over a length of time is as I have seen a number of mixed reviews.

I am afraid I don't have one but apparently they take a bit of getting used to. I think the 15" chassis has more problems than the 17" but they aren't really problems, they are just different. There haven't had to be replacements that I know of so they are still good keyboards.
