Can't get Control Centre 3.0 working

Recently my PC Specialist laptop which I bought second hand was running badly. I investigated and discovered that PCC.exe was active in task manager hundreds of times. This is a component part of Control Centre. I was in the process of reinstalling Control Centre when I realised that the downloads from clevo are only updates for my model (NH55AF).

I have installed "Update Control Center 3.0 Driver Version. 3.12" which did not work and replaced that with "Update Control Center 3.0 AP Version 3.00" which also did not work. The installation completes successfully and the icon appears in the tray but nothing happens when I click on it. I have tried double clicking and right clicking but nothing happens.

Researching this I understand I need the release version of the CCC but as the laptop is second hand I do not have access to the PC Specialist account to get the software which originally came with it.

I wonder if anyone can help or offer any advice on this as the fans are deafening and it'd be nice to get the keyboard LEDs working.

First things first, get your friend to transfer ownership to you as described in this linked thread, then once that is done post the full spec here along with the model number off the bottom of the laptop

Update: I have now managed to find the software that came with the laptop in CD form. I have uninstalled all traces of Control Centre and installed v2.15 from the CD - this has not solved the issue as 2.15 does exactly the same thing.

Seems very odd that a user would not be able to update their PC Specialist laptop or desktop because the person or place they bought it from can't transfer ownership in their account over to them. Anyhow, the software included with the laptop from new doesn't work so I don't think the user account issue is what's causing this.

Afaik it's because without the ownership being transferred properly to you there is basically no proof that it just wasn't stolen (no, I'm not saying you stole it) - which is why the original owner has to transfer the ownership/warranty

I understand that but property changes hands all the time and I have used the disc which was supplied with the laptop.

I get that it's one of the pitfalls of buying used but I am just very surprised how complicated this is. Every laptop I've ever dealt with in the past I've just been able to pop onto the manufacturer's site and grab the drivers. Bit of a shame if you were to be buying a PC Specialist laptop which then required a warranty claim. This would be a huge delay and I suspect it would cause most people to abandon such an action.
I have also contacted Clevo to see if they can help given that they are the manufacturer of the hardware.

That will be hugely outdated, as with any software, you need to use the latest version as updates are happening all the time for security issues, or OS changes.

It is though, because without an account, you can't access the current drivers.

It's a change happening with a lot of manufacturers you'll find across the board nowadays to try to prevent it being so easy to deal stolen equipment.

It wouldn't be a delay at all, it's immediate service so long as you have the account. Any reputable seller knows this, and will transfer the account as part of the sale.

I'm afraid this is your case with the seller. As you said, they're a friend so you should be able to contact them no problem?

This is exactly what I m trying to do but it seems that because I did not buy it brand new through PC Specialist I'm denied any kind of support!

Of course it would be a delay! We're literally demonstrating why there is a delay. There's multitudes of reasons why the account may not have been transferred at the point of sale.

This is rapidly turning into a pointless debate which is not really within the scope of what I've asked. To summarise I believe the answer is that unless the seller has transferred the account to you there's no realistic prospect of any kind of support from PC Specialist when dealing with second hand goods.

Thank you for the replies

2nd hand machines are not denied support/ownership, its just the fact your friend didn't transfer the ownership/warranty and it does need to be done properly I'm afraid to prove its not stolen property
Many have successfully got warranty and ownership rights when buying 2nd hand - have seen it a number of times on the forums and discord

Yes, that's accurate, and the seller would be aware of that, so if they've failed to transfer ownership, it begs the question why would they do that as they would know the impact.

I'm afraid you need to chase this up with the seller.

This is no different to an Apple or Samsung device these days, Dell are following close behind. It will soon be the de facto requirement across all manufacturers I'm sure.

As for the reasoning your control center isn't working, as answered numerious times now, you're not using the correct version, the one you're using is out of date and therefor incompatible with the OS
