Choice between 2 laptops

Hello there, first thanks for taking the time to read this if you are!

Second I am split between choosing between these two laptops and was wondering if anyone could give any advice or perhaps give alternatives to the components I've chosen.

The desired use of the laptop is for gaming and every day use, not really outside of the home (only occasionally)

First laptop :-

Chassis & Display Optimus Series: 17.3" Matte Full HD LED Widescreen (1920x1080)
Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i5 Dual Core Mobile Processor i5-4330M (2.80GHz) 3MB
Memory (RAM) 16GB SAMSUNG 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 MEMORY (2 x 8GB)
Graphics Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 765M - 2.0GB DDR5 Video RAM - DirectX® 11
2nd Graphics Card NONE
Memory - 1st Hard Disk 750GB WD SCORPIO BLACK WD7500BPKX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 16MB CACHE (7200 rpm)
Thermal Paste ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND
Sound Card Intel 2 Channel High Definition Audio + MIC/Headphone Jack
Wireless/Wired Networking GIGABIT LAN & KILLER™ 1202 WIRELESS GAMING 802.11N + BLUETOOTH 4.0

Price for this = £987.00

Second laptop:-

Chassis & Display Optimus Series: 15.6" Matte Full HD LED Widescreen (1920x1080)
Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i5 Dual Core Mobile Processor i5-4330M (2.80GHz) 3MB
Memory (RAM) 16GB SAMSUNG 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 MEMORY (2 x 8GB)
Graphics Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 765M - 2.0GB DDR5 Video RAM - DirectX® 11
2nd Graphics Card NONE
Memory - 1st Hard Disk 750GB WD SCORPIO BLACK WD7500BPKX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 16MB CACHE (7200 rpm)
Thermal Paste ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND
Sound Card Intel 2 Channel High Definition Audio + MIC/Headphone Jack
Wireless/Wired Networking GIGABIT LAN & KILLER™ 1202 WIRELESS GAMING 802.11N + BLUETOOTH 4.0

Price for this = £956.00

As you can see, identical builds apart from the larger display. I was wondering if it was worth the extra £30 for the bigger display.

Any input would be much appreciated as I would like this to last atleast 3-4 years! So if theres any changes you may would be beneficial then feel free to post away!

Thanks for reading.

The only difference is screen size, which is a personal preference really,no need for 16GB RAM for gaming and everyday use though,8GB will be plenty.

Thanks for your quick reply vanthus, the aim of the 16gb is for it to be future proof is all. I tend to have shed loads of tabs open at any one time. It is a big price difference though!

Keynes you make a good point there, could do that would be smarter! Cheers.

8GB RAM will still suffice,it's highly unlikely you will ever need more for the life time of the laptop.

Will be doing that then, would you recommend sticking with i5 or as keynes suggested go for the i7?

The detailed specification says that 1600Mhz memory is only available for i7 processors.

If I was a gamer (which I am not), I would want something beefier than the GTX 765M graphics card. Unfortunately there is no other choice with that laptop.

The 765M is a pretty good card for gaming in my opinion, especially if used in conjunction with an i7 quad core processor.

So I've reconfig'd it to the i7 4800qm coupled with the 8gb of RAM and the GTX 765, I've read alot of good reviews about the GTX 765, I'd mainly play games such as Total War etc.

Regarding your original question about whether to go for the 17" or 15" display? I have an Optimus IV with the 15" display and it's a big laptop, it's a little wider than my old 15" Compaq for example. I have repaired a few 17" laptops for others in the marina here and they are huge. I wouldn't want to carry one of those around for long! I guess the bigger screen will be much better for gaming (like Dogbot, I don't game) but the price of that bigger screen is a much bigger laptop.

Hey there, thanks for the input!

I won't be taking it out much to be very honest. However I did notice in your signature that you use the 750gb scorpio that I am looking to purchase with this laptop, how does it perform?

Very well indeed. Quiet and very fast. I'm very happy with it. :)
