Choppy Performance

First off let me start by saying I am very happy with my Laptop from PCS....... But a couple of things that are bugging me

My Specs are listed below. First off the temp of the GPU often hits 89C - 93C (Whilst gaming) I do have a laptop cooling stand and have not tried to run any games without it but with the GPU temp already at that I don't think I would want too.

So scaling back from Crysis - Bioshock Infinite to play Batman Arkham Asylum I notices that the FPS started at around 60 - 80 (High settings) but would drop to like 12 then back up. I have seen this happen on most games I have tried obviously for the high performance games I assumed this would be temp related as the GPU would throttle as it was getting too hot but when this happens on games where the GPU temp is around 50 - 65C it is a bit frustrating. Any tips or tricks I can try to improve performance?

In the Nvidia control panel there's an option called something like "energy control mode" that you can switch to maximum performance in stead of adaptive. Have you tried that?

Thanks for the tips I will try them when I get home. Reading that article about adaptive Vsync. Why would that option not be on by default?
