Hi folks.

I'm just wondering what you think of this system for video editing and music production. I've been tinkering with it for a while and now I need help from the pros. I'm at the peak of my budget with this system which is just over €1600. Any info or recommended changes would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Still around €90 over but it's a FAR better system than the original choices.

Thanks @Scott And @Nursemorph !

What is the noise like from the Fractal G case? Is it on par with the Fractal Define 7?

Would the 6GB RTX 2060 be enough for running Davinci Resolve? 🤔

And lastly, is it better to have an ssd as the secondary drive for realtime video playback in Resolve?

Thanks again!

Clint

Focus G is going to be a bit louder. The Define is built with being quiet in mind while having excellent airflow. The Focus G is more airflow focused.

The 2060 will do fine, it's a good starting point. It's similar in power to a GTX 1080. Options were limited by the budget.

A cache M2 drive would be really good for almost any sort of editing and rendering. It's a luxury though and the budget didn't allow for it.

Ok guys, I think I'll up the budget and get what I think I need.

How does this look. Really appreciate your input and advice.

Yeah, with the SSD you have selected I would probably go with an M2 drive rather than a standard SATA one. The M2 drives are SOOO much faster, when it comes to scratch you want it to be as quick as possible. Coolermaster 240 is the cooler you want also. The PCS one looks nice but I've not seen any reviews with overclocking etc.

That'll be first class. Are you only using the 2nd drive for scratch or are you wanting it for storage too? 500GB would be plenty for scratch, just in case you wanted to swap the drives over. Either configuration is fine though :)

@Scott I have some HDD drives for storage so should I just get the 500gb M.2 for scratch?

One last question, Scott... I have an RME HDSPe AES PCIe sound card that goes to my Lynx Aurora audio converters for audio recording and mixing... do you think there would be any conflicts or issues with this tower?

Thanks again!

What do you mean exactly by "videohttps://www.ft.com/content/6b4c784e-c259-4ca4-9a82-648ffde71bf0 editing" and "music production" ? It's important to know to tell you the very best specs you could choose (for example : going for a radeon 5700xt rather than a 2060 super, much bette for music production, but then it depends on what exaclty you use for editing) EDOIT : oh right just read that you use Da Vinci Resolve , so the 5700 xt is NOT the way to go. 2060 super would be better. Just know that you'll have to reinstall the nvidia studio drivers rather than the suite

,And about your storage... Do you use a lot of kontakt banks or are you more a soft synth kind of g,ο Μuy ?

Just regarding the soundcard....

Firstly, wow, lovely bit of kit :)

Secondly, there were reports of compatibility issues with PCIe 4 on X570 boards with some soundcards, it seems to be hit and miss and once the soundcard is physically installed the system fails to boot or the card is not recognised.

There may well have been a BIOS update since this was posted in March to address this, I'm not sure, but if it does happen, the workaround is to specify PCIe 3 on the PCIe lane that you're using for the RME card.

There were a lot of general issues with Audio and early Ryzen 3000 Bioses, but don't worry, they've corrected all those issues in further BIOS updates since then. Just in case you do a search on google and get worried.

Thanks for the info, @Bukky !

I record mostly live instruments and I also use some outboard synths and tone generators, but I also use some Arturia and NI software but only occassionally when needed.
Could you explain a little more about the Nvidia drivers situation?

@SpyderTracks ... that is EXACTLY what I did... researched online and saw the conflict with the mobo 😅
Really appreciate the info about the workaround!
And yes, the RME and Lynx has such a clean conversion.
