Computer freezes when watching live streaming

Hello all,
I am after some help/advice if possible please.
I recieved my new pc earlier this week and all was fine........until last night/early this morning when my computer froze several times whilst watching live streaming of the nfl draft. after the picture going, then the sound would become slurred then the whole thing would freeze. Mouse would freeze ctr alt del wouldn't work so in the end i have to restart it, this happened twice already once wed and once thurs. After restating my pc it goes into the usual start windows normally etc and all if fine..........then after watching for around another 10 mins it does the same. each time before it freezes the screen plays up and i get a message from windows saying Nvidia window display driver kernel mode driver 267.24 stopped working and was recovered this happened on the nfl.com official site and the teams official site(meaning i wasn't watching using a 3rd party or something)

I am not sure if this is linked to when windows installed it's updates on the first day or so i got it but it is defo a problem now :(
i have also played a low end AOE game on it and every now and then the characters freeze then 0.5-1 sec later they continue again, could this be linked?
I have pasted below 1 of the reports the reliability program picked up (had 2 on 26/4 1 on 28/4 and 3 on 29/4 all the same
the title in the summary is video hardware error

Thanks for the quick reply Vanthus,

windows update automatically installed this update a few days ago(file size same 166mb) but have just done it again. for info as i was reading your reply/ browsing this site i also had zune open d/loading my pics(3 off) to comp from my phone. The screen went black then reappeared but all the letters became gobbledegoooook even when i hovver over a topic +any words around my whole screen i.e time/date, had to close zune cuz wasn't workin atall and as i run the nvidia update all that writing was mismashed/missing letters too. once the install was completed the screen came 'back to normal' i then restarted my pc thru the proper way and hope all will now be ok. TBH the black screen issue has happened a few times but thought nothing of it

Odds are, the manufacturer's version of the driver is newer, just not "certified."
Updating the driver Is not guaranteed to fix your problem,It could be something else like gpu needing cleaned/reseated,or even faulty, but here's hoping.

Yeah never let windows install Gpu drivers there is a later driver out on the nvidia website that vanthus posted above and when you install the drivers choose custom install and check the box for uninstall old drivers or remove old drivers (something like that)

installed above update and have just had the same problem, comp froze and only way to get it working was to restart it via the case
different kernel code 260.something and screen went off as if no pc on then came back on saying it had been recovered etc

*ah ok thanks fear, si guess i just try and reinstall it again doing the custom and see how it goes.
will try it now
thanks

right done that,
played a few videos and all was ok, then played 1 or 2 random(not home type) 1's on youtube and got the same kernel message!! youtube video screen went green, audio froze then audio continued whilst screen stayed green.
on an off chance when the comp starts up the asus screen comes up, then goes blank and comes back on again b4 saying starting widows. is this normal or could this be linked?

What driver version are you showing as installed at the moment the latest drivers you should have installed are 270.61 released on 18/4/2011

Have you installed Flash player if not install that and i know vanthus posted earlier about checking to make sure GPU is seated properly so could be worth switching off unplugging and remove and reseat the GPU if you feel confident with this.

done that this morning and pretty much the same is happening except the comp hasn't froze completely....yet the screen has again gone blank a couple of times, same message comes up and has closed the browser aswell saying there is a problem. done that on both firefox and IE.

Not definate but sounds like a faulty GPU to me, my old gaming rig that started by crashing on 1 game only was fine with all the others and was also having trouble booting would get some multicoloured shapes on a black screen would take a few restarts to get it to run, but eventually after a week i could not open IE or anything screen went 1 colour and froze. The family computer the screen on that 1 would randomly go blank (black screen) but would come back on untill it failed altogether, so looks like only thing to do now is phone support tuesday.

update:
rung tech support and they reckon it's a fault in the gfx card so fairplay they sent me out a new 1 on exchange delivery next day service.
Have put new 1 in and hopefully all will be ok(fingers crossed) as it took a few days for the fault to register with my old card.
