configurator will select 200w supply but not 230w ?

Hi folks,

The Laptop configurator with the spec I've chosen states I need to pick a 200W power supply which is fine.
But I want to pick the 230W power supply in case I add or upgrade at a later date and the laptop sucks a bit more power.

The configuration wont let me process and save the order with the higher wattage power supply which does not make sense. Wondering if there is a specific reason for this?

If it was a lower wattage power supply I would understand as it would not be enough to supply some of the newer graphics cards but not allowing higher than needed makes so sense to me
since the laptop would just draw what it needed.

Howdy,
The 17.3" Defiance III with the 6GB GeForce GTX 1060. I can save the configuration as a quote with a 200w power supply but it wont let me process or save the quote when I choose 230w. Even if the 200w is enough I'd like little more just in case.

The 230W PSU is for when you select the 1070 gtx i believe. hence why it's not letting you do that. in the Def 3 you cannot upgrade the gpu and cpu easily they are soldered down whereas the Octane 3 they can be upgraded i believe. correct me if im wrong someone please.

I'd steer well clear of saying the Octane GPUs can be 'upgraded', as we don't know what the next gen of GPUs will be like in terms of their design. Plenty of people bought laptops of older gens thinking they could upgrade to pascal mobile GPUs in future to find they were out of luck on that score. There's one manufacturer that may even have led people on in that regards and has some unhappy people on its forums.

But I believe you're right that the 200W PSU is for the 1060 defiance and the 230W PSU is for the 1070 defiance.

sorry i should have made that clearer, you are correct in that the next gen might not be the pascal interface. What i meant to say and where i was trying to go was that the octane should be able to go from say the 1070 to the 1080 as an upgrade.

I should also say i have the Def 3 with 1060 and 200W PSU.
