Constant Reboots

Hi all-
My new build has been rebooting since it arrived two weeks ago. Almost always during gaming, but temps are fine. Event viewer has nothing helpful to show for it. I spoke with PCS tech support, who stress tested, etc, then gave me the instructions for a memory test independent of Windows and said if that is all good, maybe get a UPS power supply.
Memory test showed nothing, and after waiting for a UPS to be delivered, the PC is still crashing and immediately rebooting. Tech support said if the UPS doesn't work, there is no sense in sending the PC in for testing as they'll get the same results there. I'm a bit at a loss of what to do.
One thing to note, and I'll be calling support tomorrow to ask about, is I've noticed a sound coming from the PC. I thought it was possibly the PSU, but it is hard to tell. It comes in a pattern and it is kind of croaky. I've put the PC on its side to get a good recording thinking its from the PSU, but funnily enough it has not made noise for the longest period ever since I first noticed the noise.
Another thing is that when speaking with tech support, they said my PSU was under the specs recommended with my GPU, however, during stress testing my PC didn't get near my PSU wattage, so shouldn't have been an issue.

What were you using to monitor power useage and what value within that tool?

I'm afraid that PSU is well under what's required, not just in wattage, but also in the tier, a CV is more for very entry level systems, certainly not a mid range gaming system like that

The very minimum suggested by AMD is a 700W, you'd never go that low anyway, especially accounting for transient spikes

So when under load, that PSU is just going to cut out. The symptoms fit perfectly.

I've only had laptops before, so when the 'configurator' kept telling me that I should change from 750W to 550W because their calculator said I wouldn't need it, I listened. Suppose I shouldn't have. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

That's more likely just the GPU, that's not the whole system I'd wager my life on that.

It's amazing how many people mis read that, it's not telling you to downgrade at all in any form, it's merely saying what you may be able to get away with, but no one who knows systems would ever go to the baseline anyway because not only does it not account for transient spikes which is a very real issue these days, but it doesn't allow any headroom for upgrades in the future and massively limits the lifespan of the PC without a pretty significant rebuilt. That notice is there for those on extreme budgets building £600 systems where they can't spare even £20 here and there.

If you're unsure of hardware, get advice. It's quite an art form to build a well balanced PC.

I wouldn't put anything less than an 850W in a gaming system, the Berserker in my spec has a 1000W in it

It looks like it's still under warranty for labour costs so if you call PCS and ask them if you can make some upgrades and they should do the work but obviously you will need to pay the costs of the upgrade. Call them and see what they say.

FIRST THOUGH ask some of the guys in here what you could change to make the PC more optimised and then at least you will have understanding of what the upgrade costs will be.
