Hey there,
Have had the Cosmos IX for a year or so. I use it mostly for work which involves video editing and audio production, and for my day to day internet needs etc. Occasional gaming.
Anyway in the past three months the fans have started kicking in a lot more often than usual which is annoying; fans are on even when idling. In the past fans were kicking in only when under load and that obviously makes sense.
I should say here that I use the entertainment power setting from the Clevo app, and occasionally switch to performance when needed. I also customised the power plan on Windows to allow for more processing heavy tasks when the laptop is plugged in, and the laptop limits itself when it is on battery (all to optimise audio tasks).
These used to work as expected and the fan would react to the load, so be silent most of the time and when I get to work on something high CPU or GPU they will kick in.
When unplugged, laptop will stay silent as its power plan reduced the performances.
I opened the back and whilst there isn't much dust visible, I still went a used my electric duster to superficially blow some of it out. Sadly I couldn't go very far as I don't have a screwdriver small enough at the moment to access the heatsinks and dismount the fans, so all of that was done from the top of the board when you take out the casing.
Not much came out, but now one of the fan is making a very annoying high pitched noise... And of course, fans still kick in when idling and for no reason.
Temps are about 70deg for CPU idling and 55deg for the GPU idling.
Performance is still good.
Should I be worried about the new high pitched noise - is it warning me of potential damage? I won't be able to get my hands on the right screwdriver to clean the fans properly before a while.
Any suggestions as to what I should be looking at to restore the right fan activity? Repasting? Changes in power plan settings?
