Could someone take a look at this spec please.

Hi all,

I am looking at a new gaming rig after being out of the game for a few years and wondered what people thought of this one I have specced.

Im mainly a first person shooter type guy ( bf4 mainly, although I do like the look of Arma 3). The pc is predominantly used for gaming and I am not into overclocking.

I would really appreciate someone taking a look and tweeking if necessary.

A few suggestions:

Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™i7 Six Core Processor i7-5930K (3.5GHz) 15MB Cache
Motherboard
ASUS® RAMPAGE V EXTREME/U3.1: E-ATX, HSW-E CPU, USB 3.0, SATA 6 GB/s
If you change to one of the Skylake processors . ie. the i7-6700 you will save money, and it really won't make any difference for gaming.
I know ARMA3 is CPU intensive so the i7 may be useful here, though for most FPS's the i5-6600 would be fine, and since you are not planning on overclocking you do not need the k-variant of the CPU

Graphics Card
12GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX TITAN X - DVI, HDMI, 3x DP - GeForce GTX VR Ready!
Go for a GTX980Ti instead, a lot cheaper and not that much difference in performance (certainly not as much as the price would suggest)

1st Hard Disk
1TB SEAGATE 3.5" SSHD, SATA 6Gb/s 7200 RPM (64MB + 8GB SSD CACHE)
2nd Hard Disk
2TB SEAGATE 3.5" SSHD, SATA 6Gb/s 7200 RPM (64MB + 8GB SSD CACHE)
Instead of the SSHDs, I'd suggest one proper SSD (not one of the Kingston V300 ones though) and one WDBlack drive instead.

Processor Cooling
Corsair H80i GT Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler (£69)
If you're not planning on overclocking, an air cooler would be perfectly fine.

Warranty
3 Year Standard Warranty (1 Month Collect & Return, 1 Year Parts, 3 Year Labour)
The silver warranty is only a fiver and extends the return and collect to a year, a no-brainer for peace of mind if nothing else :)

Cheers Rakk, I'll take a look at the things you have suggested. Just to clarify the i7 -6700 is more than enough CPU power for the games I want to run.

I must have clicked the wrong ssd button on the selection . Would a Samsung evo drive be good for primary drive and a sshd OK for secondary. I'm not really on a budget so don't mind the sshd as secondary. I would like to use the ssd for windows and the sshd for the games.. Is that something you would recommend

With the 980ti , would that be a better option with a view to add another at a later date if required over the Titan x .

Thanks for your time so far.

The i7 6700 is more than enough for gaming on and will be for some time.

The Samsung SSDs are ideal for your main/OS drive but I would really recommend just getting a caviar black fro the 2nd drive. The SSHD has such a small SSD on it that you really don't tend to get much benefit from it. The best way (I have found anyway) is to get a decent sized SSD say 250GB (or 500GB if your not fussed about a budget) load your OS + whatever applications and games you use or play the most. Then anything else can go onto the caviar black, I used the caviar as my main drive for years and its honestly as fast as you will need.

In regards to the GPU, the 980ti will need a fairly beefy PSU to cope with 2 of them so just make sure you have enough spare wattage to add a 2nd later if you really want to. I would just probably sell the 980ti when the time comes and buy a single top tier card of the time for less heat, power and noise than a dual card setup.

OK I have taken another look at the configuration. What do you guys think of this?

Just trying to tweek it for my needs. I have windows 7 ultimate, would you guys recommend sticking with that or going to windows 10?

I have opted for the 1000w power supply just for future proofing.

I definitely agree about not having the SSHDs - I don't rate them at all :) Not enough SSD space and you don't get to choose what goes there.

You may want to check with PCS which GTX980Tis they have at the moment though, I know recently(ish) they only had three-slot cards meaning that SLI'ing wasn't available just cos they take up so much space. Note: Having just checked on the configurator it'll now let me SLI those cards (once I picked a big enough case :)) - so it may be fine now, but I'd double-check just in case

OK, I think we may be almost there. I take it the i7 6700 is good as I'm not over clocking. so I'm thinking that's a better choice for me rather than the 6700k?

I changed the CPU cooler to air cooled also.

How about the motherboard, is this one any good

No need for that motherboard, it's designed for serious overclocking and SLI usage. I'd drop down to the z170 pro graming which still gives you room for SLI in the future and decent expansion generally. It's still probably overboard, but will save you some cash whilst still being a beast.
