CPU Cooler

Hey there,

So I purchased my Desktop from PC Specialist over two years ago - no problem with it at all! I've upgraded it over the years myself, adding more and better things to it!

I was cleaning it out today, I took the CPU cooler off as I had noticed it was particularly dusty. I had never taken it off before and I don't have high technical knowledge of computers. ANYWAY, so I cleaned it and attempted to put it back in with no success. I then looked at the underside of it and noticed it has thousands of little pins and quite a few of them were bent (must've happened when I took it out). I would try and put them all straight but it's not worth the effort!

The cooler is the one described on the PCS website as the "Super Quiet 22dBA Triple Copper Heatpipe AMD CPU Cooler". After a bit of further investigation, I've uncovered it as a Titan cooling fan.

Now, I was wondering do I try and source another one of these or do I go for something better? I'm unsure as this lasted two years and I never had a problem with it. Only problem is I can't seem to locate one online anywhere.

My MOBO is an ASUS M5a97, CPU is an AMD FX-4170 4.20Ghz.

I'm not sure how these processor cooling fans go as compatibility so I was looking for a little help. Should I contact PCS and ask to buy one? Should I go for something different? Any help is appreciated!

Thanks.

You could get a replacement from PCS. If you try to source it from some place else just make sure it is compatible with your cpu. I am just curious on your comment about the thousands of little pins, where are those located?

Keynes, you're still going?! :)

It looks like they slot into a pad on the MOBO/CPU, the heat then goes into the copper pipes.

The picture on the website I linked looks slightly different to the version I have. Where they show a copper plate, mine has pins.
