CPU temperatures - Is this normal?

So I've just been rendering a video with CPU usage hovering around 75%, and my CPU temperatures are rather on the high side (85c). A few months back I was rendering a model in AutoCAD which demanded 100% CPU usage - temperatures quickly started rising well into the 90s and showed no signs of stopping, so I soon cancelled the render. Now for such applications I've had to resort to software that limits CPU usage to give acceptable temperatures, and obviously this is not an ideal solution.

I've got an i7-2600 with the stock intel CPU cooler, and just wondered if this cooler is really up to the job? Surely it should be capable of keeping the CPU within safe temperatures at 100% load? Is it time I considered upgrading to something a bit more effective?

Thanks

Your cpu should be able to stand temperatures above 90c, running above 85c seems quite high to me. You could try contacting PCS technical support for advice/feedback.

The stock coolers I don't think were designed to work with CPU's under full load for great lengths of time. Although I could be wrong about that, I believe they were designed to cope with spikes of activity rather than sustained high load.

As Keynes suggested get in touch with PCS. Might be a case of upgrading the cooler a little to get better performance (I believe for instance most of the aftermarket coolers offer significantly better performance than the stock intel ones).
