I have made a few ammendments to my order but I just have a final question before im 100% happy. I chose the ASUS® P8Z68-V LX: USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs, ATI®CrossFireX motherboard... I am considering switching my currently selected 3gb gtx 580 to 2 6970 in crossfire. My question is will my motherboard have spacing between the 2 cards or will they be literaly next to each other? if so do you reccomend another motherboard as my gpu's may overehat?

Has anyone had problems with 6970s in crossfire? and hows the sound like?
Also is 850w psu enough for crossfire 6970s

Thanks

The spacing isn't going to be huge on that board, but with a decent case the temps shouldn't be a problem. My cards do have quite abit of space between them, but my temps are always very low, even on full load. They idle at 29-31 for the bottom card, 34-36 for the top. If they were closer together I don't think they'd be anywhere close to dangerous heatwise, so fairly sure you'd be fine on that board, even with the space issue.

In regards to your PSU;
PCS' spec builder says they could require upto 976w - however, I have seen people running crossfired 6970's on an 850w. But in my opinion, it's always better to be safe than sorry. If you can afford the 1050w Corsair, I don't think you'd regret it. Pretty sure you can run them on an 850, not sure how hot your PSU is going to get & how stable the powerflow would be.

As for problems with the 6970's in crossfire & sound, I assume you mean how loud the cards are on full load?
I can hear them, my desktop is right next to me on the desk. I wouldn't call it loud by any stretch of the imagination, it's moderate.
I use a headset most of the time while gaming, because i'm almost always on vent with people so in that scenario I can barely hear it at all.
Performance-wise the crossfired 6970's are great, the 6970 scales amazingly with a second card. You can see a 100% increase to FPS in some titles, which most cards can't boast. However, the sli 580's are going to win more often than the 6970's in regards to benchmarking. The 6970 crossfire wins a few, but nowhere near as many as the 580.

For the difference in price between the two cards, the 6970 is the winner in terms of value for money - but it's by no means a budget card. But you can actually buy & run three 6970's for slightly less money than two 1.5GB 580 cards are going to set you back, which shows you the price difference. But I do love both brands, i'm certainly not a fanboy of the Radeon even though I went for them.

If you have the money, i'd suggest the 1050w Corsair. Obviously a higher end motherboard with more pci connectivity options would be 'better'. But fairly sure it isn't needed in your case. I don't own your motherboard, though - so if someone who does can comment you'd get a better idea.

If you're working to a budget, I wouldn't bother with the 3GB 580 if you do go with a single Nvidia card, as the 1.5 is still an amazing piece of hardware. I would however suggest Nvidia for a single card setup, as the crossfire scaling is one of the 6970's selling points.

Thanks for the reply, do you think the COOLERMASTER HAF 912 PLUS MID TOWER GAMING CASE is fine for this setup?

The Coolermaster HAF high airflow cases are great, I bought the Sniper for my system.
The 912 plus mid is one of the less expensive cases & obviously some of the more expensive ones might be better. But i'd say you'd be perfectly set with that case.

Make sure you post a new thread with the entire spec you're looking at, including all the components & the price range you're working to. Also stating what you'll be wanting to use the PC for, be it gaming or media editing. There are some great members on this community who can help you build the best PCSpecialist build possible for you, for the amount you're looking at.

No, it's because you have to wait for a moderator to validate it, please just be patient until things appear, this applies to edited posts as well
